Seen a couple used good condition AMD-65 rifles for sale today and was wondering what they are running now days. I see they are going for $399 plus shipping and transfer fee on centerfire systems and these were $379 no shipping or transfer fees necessary. The thing that really caught my eye was that both rifles had 20 rd mags in them and the guy didn't have a 30 rd mag for me to see if it would fit. Looked like one would be mighty close to the front foregrip if it did fit.

Other than the welded on barrel extension/muzzle break, different front hand gaurds, and the rear turnion/folding stock are these rifles standard AK's internally? How well does the folding stock hold up?

A buddy of mine bought one and really likes it. A 30rd magazine will fit BUT the 20rd and 40rd mags fit better because of the foregrip. I came VERY close to buying one myself BUT decided to hold out for an Arsenal SGL21. However, I would strongly recommend one for anyone looking for an AK variant under $600.

I'm sure they won't both sell before monday, I'll go back and pick the best of the 2. I got a couple cheapo aftermarked 10rd mags, and a couple drums but all my other stick mags are standard surplus 30 rd mags.

Might as well have another AK. Was debating on it vs one of the Draco pistols. Gotta have something to hold me over until the next shipment of saiga .308's come in. :D

(maybe I have a gun problem, but most of you guys would tell me its completely normal)

The AMD-65 is an AK. Same bolt, BCG, FCG, ect. You don't have many handguard options other than one of the quad-rail systems or Hogue's new AK handguard if you don't like the sheetmetal. Krebs does make a stock adapter if you hate the wire folder. The wire folder is stout and locks smartly open or closed. 20's are the easiest to use but 30's will work.

Things to look for on a proper AMD-65 build:

-shortened gas system
-front sight block against gasblock
-12" chrome lined barrel + 4" extened brake or brake +2" extension

Well I do appreciate everyones info on this rifle. I was hoping this post would contain pics of my new toy but it doesn't. Apparently the guy that was selling them figured out they were now valued much higher and decided he'd take no less than 550 for the scratched up one and 600 for the one that looked like it was in great shape. He still has both of them.

Oh well, maybe i'll keep looking. Maybe some .308 saiga's in 16 inch will come in, or maybe i'll get one of those draco's.
