Which version would you have of the AMD's, the century, or the FEG? Beyond that, should I do a Draco pistol to SBR build, or just pick up an AMD-65??? A pitiful question to be sure, but I can't decide between the three. If you had the money for only one of either, which way would you go!?!

Well, an AMD can be problematic as the folding wire stock is not terribly comfortable for many shooters and is very difficult to change for a more conventional stock.

If you're even considering an SBR build and have the skills and tools to do a good one off the Draco, I'd say it's a no-brainer.

But you're kind of asking an "tangerines-to-oranges" kind of question. What do you want to end up with and how much do you want to spend?

I took my two mitchell arms registered pre 2nd ban FEGs and put AMD 63 "uppers" on them and an COMPLETELY satisfied with the result!

Like the ability to drill and tap two holes? That is all that is needed. There are of course more complicated ways to put a stock on a Draco, but they aren't forcedly better and certainly not necessary.

AMD folder

ive been considering for awhile now knocking the pin out of my AMD's folder and bending some steel wire stock into a better shape (more like an east german) and pinning that in place on the hinged block. as far as the century vs feg, i think the FEG is going to be better. i own a century. the century amd's have american made non-chromed 14" barrels with welded on brakes, the feg's have 12.5" chromed barrels with extended brakes. you could argue that a properly working century will be more accurate due to the non-chromed, longer barrel, but will require proper cleaning with corrosive ammo. my century came with an older style NDS-65 receiver (nds-3 econo based, not nds-1 based as are currently mfg'd) with a tapco single hook G2 and an AKM front trunion, not one from a true AMD. i had to tweak the ejector and grind out a second slot for a double hook G2, as the slot for the trigger hook in the early nds-65's was too long - works great now though, no FTE's. you wont have those issues to work out if you get an FEG but i was not aware of this when i purchased mine, and FEG's werent widely available at the time. decent rifle now though.

edit: i disagree that changing the wire folder on an amd would be hard, its basically held to that hinged block with a pin, you would just have to drill an appropriately sized hole in the new one and secure it with a roll pin...

If I lived in a state where I could have a SBR , I'd build it off my Draco BUT then I would put a AMD-65 muzzle brake on it ---- my AMD has less recoil then any other AK I have owned.
