I just bought 1k of once fired .45acp brass and some of it is Amerc. I know I've seen some negative opinions of Amerc on here and was looking for a bit more info as to what is wrong with it? Should it be immediately trashed or ? (about 5-6% of what I bought seems to be Amerc with the remainder Winchester, Federal and Remington with a little military)

A second question is what a "CBC" headstamp indicates. I hadn't seen that before. Is there a headstamp reference anywhere like Ammo-oracle is for AR15 ammo?

Have a good one,
Dave

So it's not even worth reloading as plinking ammo that you don't have to worry about finding?

(Thanks for the url . . .that's great!)

Dave

Amerc brass that I've run into has been of very poor quality. I've tossed all I've ever picked up.

I really like the CBC (Magtech). It's soft brass, lasts forever, but I only use it in target loads.

Good Luck...

Joe

Thanks!

So do you put it in some sort recycle bucket? Is there any place that buys scrap brass? (is it worth anything) I'm guessing it needs to be de-primed before it's recycled?

Flash holes aren't always centered so you could damage your decapping pin trying to deprime. The slight amount of money you might get as scrap brass just isn't worth it.

At our club we save all spent .22 brass used at the indoor range. Those that reload & that is 90% of us, if we have a split piece of brass or one damaged then we also drop it into the same bucket.

Last year we received 35 cents pr pound & with over 100 lbs that was some good money for the Club.True prices have been down to 25 cents still it is better then nothing.

Once a year I take all my spent primers, cracked cases and brass I pick up at the range south. Usually get about $50. for it which equates to about 3,000 fresh primers. And it helps with the environment as a bonus!

Absolutely! Destroy the stuff before you dump it into the brass bucket; don't want someone else trying to load it. ;)

CBC is a headstamp of Magtech ammo. I have had very good performance with Magtech ammo, so I would say their brass is good.

Smash the A-MERC stuff BEFORE tossing it. Poorest excuse for ammo I have ever seen. Not worth breaking your de-prime tool.

I find the Amerc (before I trashed all I had) seemed to be inconsistent in the "hardness" of the brass. It grip the bullet tight on one case and loose on the next.

Trash it. Not worth the hassle/risks!

amerc brass

amerc brass is not worth the energy it will take to put it in the trash. it's the only brass that i have trouble with. after loading it, it will not go in my headspace gage? cheap crap get rid of it. :banghead:
