So I am going through the local fun shop the other day. I see a Stainless Steel Commander sized 1911 in the case. I took a look at it and it seemed to be a pretty good gun.

American Classics (or something like that) it was built in the Philippines, so I think it’s a Rock Island one. Anyone ever use one or heard of them? Are they worth the $499. Asking price?

Thanks
WB

I think you saw a chrome plated version, from what I have heard the AC's are nice pistols. They are not made by armscore (rock island).

I just bought one myself, the Classic Commander Tactical version. I think the Tactical name is a bit much, as it just has the good Nowak sights on it, but at any rate I really like the gun. Trigger is perfect. The plastic grips will be replaced immediately with the Pachmayer gripper neoprene/wood combo grip and that's it. A lot of guys post that they hate them but I truly believe that if you don't own and shoot one you should not be allowed to have that opinion.

Got the blued version of the one wildbillz looked at

I have already given a review/range report, now that I have a set of grips on it that I like and more mags and a couple hundred rounds to run thru it, I can find out if my initial impression was accurate or improves at my next range session.

Thus far everyone I have showed it to was, dare I say, "impressed" with the quality and features for the price, I have already gotten offers to buy it or trade for it, I have no intention of doing either until I determine if it will or wont be suitable for daily carry, which so far it has been just fine carrying, I just need to shoot it a whole bunch more to be sure beyond a shadow of a doubt before I would consider parting with it.

Price on American Classic Commander

$499 for a hard chromed version seems about right. Mine was very close to that after tax, I had a trade towards mine, but it was brand new and now that I have it and have looked at what it would cost to add the dove tailed 3 dot sites with set screw, extended slide release, extended thumb safety, beaver tail grip safety, to a "bare bones" 1911, I think its a lot of gun for the money.

I was also very happy with the trigger pull on mine right out of the box, I have not put it on a scale yet, but dont think seeing what it came in at what convince me it needed to be any lighter.

I just bought the blued Commander. Need to get out shooting to make much of a comment other than the fit and finish on mine are very good . Slide is snug, as is the bushing and barrel lock up. Machining on the internals looks very good. If it runs like it looks, it should be a good gun.

ACll that I own is a good trust worthy 1911 pistol. Fit and finish is better than the RIA IMO.

American Classic Commander

Took my ACC to my friends today and measured the trigger pull on his Lyman digital trigger scale, the average of 10 consecutively measured pulls was
4 lbs, 3 oz. out of the box, factory original setting. In mine and his opinions, pretty much perfect for a carry 1911.

POS IMcoltO

Have you owned one? Have you shot one? Have you held one? Have you ever even seen one??? Just curious as to the extent of your experience with this gun, as long as you're sharing your obvious expertise with us all.

I have a very early AC It is well made and will shoot as well as any of my Colts Has better slide to frame fit than my Colts .My trigger was also right a 4lbs. .
The only complaint I have and so do others is the grips. But that what people replace first anyway.
I have a American Classic section on my board as several of my members also have them .. http://bersachat.com

Now to be clear They have nothing at all to do with Bersa . They are Imported by same importer . That only connection . They are not a Bersa American Classic like I have saw some on line vendors advertise. They are made by Metro Arms in Philippines.

Oh the AC are 1911 compatible so you can upgrade if you feel the need .
