Hey does anyone have any experience reloading the "American Eagle" ammo manufactured by Federal?

I've got plenty of .40 brass but not .45 or .380. I've done some quick math and as embarassing as it is I can buy 500 rounds of ammo and then reload it cheaper than buying the components to reload.

Thanks guys

I am new to reloading but have reloaded 100 pieces of 44 Mag. brass from American Eagle about 4 times with no problems, and haven't heard of any problems from others.

I figure it is worth it to buy the ammo to shoot for the brass instead of just buying the brass. The only problem is their 44 Mag is so hot compared to my reloads it is almost unenjoyable to shoot. So I put a few rounds through each time at the range to keep building up a supply of brass, I can manage a cyclinder or two at a time and have fun with it.

I've reloaded the 10mm FC brass

And had zero issues. I've split starline cases, but never FC stamped federal. Loading just under max with Blue Dot.

I've reloaded lots of american eagle in the past. Nothing wrong with it from my experience. I'd say go for it.

DUH

Ironically while having a few .... Coctails I could purchase the brass and bullest from midwestusa. But I'll think I'll just buy the ammo and then reload it.

Thanks for the advice guys!!!

Federal is my second choice for reloading. I prefer Remington. I've had no real problems with either, Remington just seems to last a little longer.

Starline is OK, but kinda brittle.

PMC is decent, too.

Winchester-very thin, weak case head. I've had more than a handful of ripped off case heads in 10mm using Winchester brass.

Don't see much Hornady brass execept .454 casull, but it seems to be fine.

Speer is kinda squishy but holds up well to standard pressure loads.

Norma-super thick and F&*#'s up the whole crimping routine when loading mixed bag of everything else. Roundfile.

S&B and A-merc headstamps=crappy primer pockets and I generally pitch 'em.

MachIV: next time you start to through away S&B, HOLLAR if it's .45 ACP! I love it! The primer pockets are tight. But they will remain tight for a better primer seal than a lot of other brands of cases. I find the consistency of S&B brass to be about as good as it gets, but many do not like the tight primer pocket. I'd say 9mm as well but I have buckets of new or once fired 9mm brass.;)

My 45ACP is 50-50 AE Federal and Remington UMC. Both reload fine, with no issues.

I load 4.7gr Bullseye under a 230gr SpaceCoast LRN with a Winchester primer. Works fine, and shoots to same POI as my carry load, Remington 230 grain JHPs (yes, the $26/100 ones @ wal mart)

The only caution with Federal Brass is that the rifle brass sucks! It is too soft, and there is no case life associated with it this is especially true with 223 and 308 Federal Brass. Handgun I have no problems with, I use Fed 45ACP brass for my 625's, just to keep the brass seperate from getting the rims beat up by the autoloaders!

Where do you think I got a bunch of federal 357 brass?:D Came to the same conclusion the rest have. It's very good brass. And as you said, figure the cost of the loaded box vs. buying new components for 2 reloads and you come out ahead.

Some of my *american eagle* federal brass is sitting downstairs with its 15th powder charge.

What about IMI

I saw some Israeli Military Industry brass pretty cheap. Anyone ever use it?

Cabowabo. A guy I shoot with swears by IMI brass. He says it lasts longer than any other he's tried, and he's such a "brass monkey" you have to keep him indoors on those cold nights. I think he told me it has crimped primers, though. I'll probably see him at the range this weekend and I'll ask to make sure.
