Does anyone haave any experience with recent manufacture Federal American Eagle .223 ?

Is this more or less accurate than LC ?

I see both are coming down in price.

Many thanks.

You might need to be a bit more specific.

Are you talking about America Eagle's XM193 vs Federal's XM193? If so then they are both the same, the only difference is the box they comes in.

Regardless it's great stuff, I just picked up 280 rounds of it the other day for $97+tax
.

I don't see them listing it as XM.

They list it as AE223BK.

They also sell XM193 for a few bucks more.

ok... then what is AE 223 BL ? 55gr fmj. gander mt had it for $59/100; then put it on sale for $29/100. figured what the hell, good brass for reloads. now i know why.
tried some of this the other day and it was crap. i could have thrown the bullets at the target and got a better group than i got with this. it was ALL OVER the target. wasn't the mini. shoots well with black hills & WW. EVERYTHING i reloaded far outshot this garbage.

the Federal American Eagle doesn't shoot very good in my AR either, I'm assuming you are referring to the Federal red box. It was all over the target at 100 yards, but the XM193 was accurate in my rifle...

no....mine said american eagle "tactical" and it was packaged in a white box with black lettering. again, this shot so bad it doesn't even qualify as blammo.

I have shot the American Eagle Tactical since I got my AR15. I have shot 2k and my buddy has also shot around 2k rounds without any FTF's or problems. You can find them on gun broker for about 299 a thousand and 20 shipping.

well then, thats a goody for you. if its good, use it. but i've been shooting/reloading 30+ yrs and this is the worst off the shelf & out of the box ammo that i have EVER seen. its not me. my mini handles WW & black hills well and is exceptional with whatever i make up for it. and if it were aproblem with the mini, and they can be tempermental, i should be havin a problem with the other factory ammo.
i'm so disatisfied with this ammo that i'm thinking about writing a letter to federal to let them know. its that bad of an embarassment. i'd recommend trying a small box of these to anyone before rushing out to but 1,000.

My bushmaster consumes it all just fine... the AE223 stuff seemed pretty dirty to me though. It was accurate enough for close quarters carbine class.

Guys,
As with any ammo, you have to find what your gun likes. That is why most experienced shooters will have you buy a couple of boxes each of several different brands of ammo.
Try them all for your accuracy stats, then stick with the one that works best.

If you just want to plink, then buy the cheapest stuff you can find and not worry about 1/2" MOA's.

OK, I have a 200 round box of AE Tactical and it is XM193 5.56x45mm in the black and white box.... other words, I am not supposed to shoot it in my AR15 which is 223 and not chambered for 5.56x45mm.... I will use it in my mini14

About ten years ago a friend of mine worked for Federal Cartridge and was able to buy ammo at a discount so I was able to try most of the different kinds of ammo that Federal makes. It just so happens that the American Eagle line of Federal products is there cheap line. I never really noticed at the time because we never did much paper shooting. But recently I have been comparing some of it on paper targets and the American Eagle stuff usually groups much larger than the rest. The most accurate stuff was some stuff intended for The Civillian Markmanship Program that was returned to Federal because some of the brass was reported to have discoloration. So it was sold as factory seconds. It shot perfectly in my .223 discolored or not. The load was 69 grain Sierra Matchking boat tail hollow point. [CMP223M]

Not to high-jack your thread here: I bought some American Eagle .32 auto ammo for my pistol, 70 gr. FMJRN, couldn't get 2 rounds in a row to fire without jamming, ended up throwing the box in the trash, lousy, lousy ammo.

I am not trying to get in a pissing contest here, but i don't see why you treat what I posted so harshly. I have a CMMG AR15 and my buddies is a DPMS and neither of us have had any problems after shooting several thousand rounds. I don't know if the stuff shoots .05MOA because I shoot with an EOTech and not a scope. I did not get this setup to shoot bullets through the same hole. I can hit head shots consistently at 200 yards that's good enough for me.

Recently I started reloading and yes a reloaded round with a VMax bullet may shoot better, but for a 90 cent round (retail) it should do better than a 32cent round. This ammo is not listed as competition ammo so it shouldn't be treated as such. Lets compare apples to apples here. Sorry if you have had bad luck with it.... It works great for me.

I wanted a rifle to shoot pretty little groups so I went out and bought a 300 win mag with a pricey scope and that does the trick for me.

Also Beefy if you have been reloading for that long I would hope your reloaded rounds would shoot better than a 32 cent round or in your case 29 cents. I have been reloading for 3 months and I know the rounds I reload are better than factory. I have taken several factory rounds apart even the high dollar rounds are not nearly as consistent as mine.
