I was in Barnes and Noble the other day and I was looking for American Rifleman but I could not find it.I saw Guns,Guns and Ammo,Swat,Guns and Wepons, and many other gun magazines. Is American Rifleman carried in stores or not.

I believe you have to be a member to receive the magazine. It comes as part of your membership. You can choose one magazine that they offer. I believe you can get additional subscriptions if you pay extra. I get American Hunter.

Joining the NRA is a good thing to do if you are a gun owner. The NRA has its problems, but it is the best orginazation that is helping to preserve the right to own a firearm in the US. Please join.

No its not sold in stores. Join the NRA and you can get it. Your annaul dues arent that much more then if you subscribed to Guns and Ammo.

Actually, I have seen NRA magaiznes offered on the rack within the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) along with publications from the Second Amendment Foundation (Women & Guns, Gun Week).

I have seen it on the stand in our local grocery store. But it isn't their every month. Maybe once every 3 or 4 months it will be on their rack. Maybe it is just for a promo to get memberships.

American Rifleman

Hastings, in Jefferson City, Missouri has it in the Magazine Rack with their other Gun magazines. Although I have noticed that they run a Moth behind, from the subsciption issue.

Generally, the American Rifleman is only available to NRA members. You can, however, donate a subscription if it and other mags to libraries and such. The NRA does publish other magazines for the newsstands.

Both Books A Million and Barnes & Noble here in McLean (well, Tyson's Corner) carry it and American Hunter in their extensive magazine selection. Interestingly, it sometimes has a different picture on the cover than the one that members receive - probably happens once a year but it does occur.

however, seeing as you were in a B @ N , and knowing how lib they are, and will forego profits sometimes to not carry a book or mag, I'm sure they know it is an NRA publication.

If Barnes and Noble is refusing to carry magazines due to their political views, why do they carry Shotgun News, another similar rag whose name I forget, and various gun and shooting magazines?

Shotgun News regularly carries columns that are more 'extreme' than anything put out by the NRA.

I remember reading within the past year that the NRA was going to start selling AR on newsstands. The information was in one of the the monthly gun magazines, and the editor was wondering how that would affect the positive support AR usually got from other magazines now that they were going to start competing for advertising and space on the racks.

Just signed up for the NRA and ordered the 'American Rifleman' with it. When I got my Mossberg 500 this past Sunday there was a discount card for the NRA for $10 off 1-year membership.

You can find some copies at various libraries, though unless you are in a good city with a decent library its unlikely it will have been donated.

If your really want AR, join the NRA for a year (~$25 at most gunshows) about the price of a one year subscription to a decent magazine.

On a side note. Barnes and Noble DOES carry quite a few gun mags. I personally love browsing them if just to scare the nearby hippy chick reading Modern Wiccan. :neener:
