A few of pounds of Goex, a few tins of caps, and around 200 .457" balls.

:evil:

Whatsa piker? If it's anything like a lightweight, I'll have you know I've "temporarily" lost more ammo than you have listed, in at least 6 of the calibers ... :p

Dave, you're the piker - I've got 3 times that or more . . . this is only one of my ammo cabinets! :D

For pistols I try to maintain 5,000rnds of each caliber. Lately I have a few 9mm carbines, so I stepped up to 10k of 9mm. When I had my AR's I tried to keep 10k on hand for them as well. I just got into .308 rifles and need to get up to speed on ammo! The only thing I have sub-1k in would be 12 gauge. On a good month I'm lucky to keep 300rnds on hand.

Several years ago on rec.guns a chap did an informal survey and found that approx 7k rounds was the average with the big boys having 10 times that. Personally, I am above average.

I am extremely choosy on which guns I own because I do not want to get into having to stock quantities of 30 different ammo calibers. So no .45 GAP, no .357 SIG, no .40 S&W, etc. Also I believe if TSHTF of TEOTWAWKI goes off (remote I know!), I think 9mm luger will be easier to acquire than .357 SIG so why lug around a .357SIG chambered weapon?
I want to try to keep minimum of one-two cases of 9mm luger, one case of .45acp, 3-4 bricks of .22LR, and 200 rounds each revolver, .44 Mag or .357 Mag. Rifle rounds are a little light, One full ammocan per caliber minimums and one ammocan of 12-ga mostly #6 Birdshot. Mostly American Eagle, CCI Brass, or Winchester White Box. There are some oddballs you get on sale mixed in;
Plus, I have a whole 'nother ammocan with the HD ammos, the HydraShok, Golden Saber, Black Talon, 00 Tactical Buck, etc. reloads which are mostly broken bricks after loading the HD rounds into various weapons.
I counted up a couple weeks ago and I have been shooting a lot and not stocking up as much as I used to so I think I will be placing an order with Ammoman.com or somebody like that to stock up here real soon, next couple of paydays or so.
Note: If you store a lot of ammo in non-climate-controlled areas, like cellars, outbuildings, or buried under the compost heap, keep a pack of SilicaGel in each can to absorb moisture. Also a good idea to rotate your stock even if it means digging it up out of the back 40.

C'mon Preacherman, you can do better than that. ;)

From when Century had their Indian x51 on sale earlier this year. 580 rounds in a 50 cal ammo can per box. My UPS guy was LOVING me that day.

I would keep a good supply of whatever you shoot. Otherwise, a box or two in my opinion is fine for the stuff you rarely shoot. What is a good supply? I think somewhere in the 250 round area for non-autos unless you shoot them all the time. For 223 which I periodically shoot a fair amount, I keep about 1000 rounds around. For 22 shells, I keep a lot around as I have all different kinds (brands, target, high speed, HP's, solids etc.).

I keep well over 1000 rounds of everything except .380 auto for which I only have one gun and quite frankly it's my last choice in any situation that requires large amounts of ammo.

First off, "Too Much Ammo" is a self-correcting problem, and therefor, not really a problem. :evil:

I found myself 'inspired' by Preacherman one day.... but I couldn't find a cheap office furniture resale place open over the holiday weekend. So, the extra money went towards another set of shelves instead of a fancy wrapper.

I really need to neaten up and re-count since the last restock... :D
