all metal prices jumped 20% at the beginning of the year, it actually affected the dealers about 1/2 way through last year, as they stocked up on last minute prices. But all prices are being carried through now, at the beginning of January. Also you will see all rifle prices rising as well.

It's not just the price of metals but also availability. Most production is going to 5.56MM and 7.62MM for the Military. Reserves are needing to be refilled. We've been using a lot of it last few years and with future threats, the .Mil wants to make sure we have enough in case we have to pull the trigger again.
Now when you take in all in together, this is why ammo has gone up more than gas.
It's not just ammo, btw... but look at the price of all the components. Look at the availability of primers.
Winchester and Remington are not even taking any more orders right now they are so backed up.
