Still trying to figure what .30-06 loads I am going to try in my Weatherby Vanguard in .30-06.

One of the salespeople at the store where I bought the rifle owns the same thing, and has reported really good luck with Federal loads (they claim that Weatherby works closely with Federal in non-weatherby calibers, and tests the rifles with them, don't know if it is true).

So I am looking at many of the Federal loads available, but I am a little confused.

One of the local stores sells Federal Vital-Shok with the 180gr Sierra Game King, but I see no mention of it on federals website.

The price on this is a good one, but I don't want to get used to one ammo load if it is discontinued.

Anyone have any info on this? Is this load still current?

Thanks.

I'd suggest that, if you're not going to reload, you should buy a couple of boxes of several brands and in different bullet weights. Why? Well, no two firearms, even though exactly the same, will "like" the same brand/bullet weights.

Comparison test the ammo on paper, to find out what your rifle shoots the best, then go from there. If you DO get into reloading, you'd be able to custom-load your ammo for slightly better accuracy over factory-loaded rounds AND save a few bucks!

By the way, a gun store employee isn't exactly the "best" person to get advice from.
