Ammo restrictions in NYC

Monday I found myself in the CT Cabelas on the way back to Jersey.

Not including FOPA, are there any NewYork City restrictions if I had picked up a box of rifle or pistol ammunition in the Connecticut store and transported through NYC on the way back to my home in NJ?

All I bought was a chamber mop.

You probably should have asked while you were there. I'm not familiar with Connect or NJ, but in most states, you just pay the cashier, get your receipt and ammo and leave. The only ID required is to prove your of legal age if not obvious. The only place I have ever had to show ID for an ammo purchase is Wally World (I'm 69 and look it) and I suspect that they just have some stupid policy of carding everyone to be sure they are old enough to purchase handgun ammo.
