Ammo shortage forces Police use Airsoft to train!

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/20...e-train-with-airsoft-guns-amid-ammo-shortage/

You got to know the ammo shortage is so bad when the police are forced to train with Airsoft guns as a backup. This is the first I heard of an agency using Airsoft or any alternatives to conventional firearms and ammo. The agency is in the Bay area of Richmond.

I guess so much for the stories that the ammo shortage is easing up?

"RICHMOND (KPIX 5) — A nationwide shortage of ammunition has forced several police departments, including Richmond, to find a backup solution for training rounds. Officers said the solution is just as effective as live ammo, not to mention cheaper."

I read about a Japanese team that trained exclusively with airsoft, and came over here to compete with the real deal. IIRC they did pretty well.

Airsoft is not exactly new to police training. It is great for force on force training and is less expensive then using simunitions. The airsoft pistols used are not the ones you can buy at the local Walmart.

Well the military uses simunitions and "laser" style guns for training. I've done it many times. Saves a ton of money, and very effective training.

funny part is that airsoft stuff is on backorder many places as well.

Airsoft for Force on Force training/practice has been in use for many years. It's advantage over simunitions and laser is lower equipment cost and lower insurance liability...we bought our own guns (green gas) for about $100 each. It doesn't get much more serious than when the DOE uses it...of course they get the more expensive AEG stuff

My co-workers and I have used it in the workplace, after hours, with great results...plus it's fun...and all you have to do is wear eye protection and pick up the pellets afterwards
