Arnold recently signed AB-962 into law which effective Feb. 2011 will prohibit internets sales of ammunition. Living out in the boonies, the internet has always been my best bet for affordable ammunition.

Between now and then, I intend to stock up big time so my question is how high can I stack cases of shotgun ammo without screwing up the plastic hulls in the bottom boxes?

Time and living situation don't make reloading a great option.

Please don't beat California to death on this. Yeah it sucks... We all know that.

Buy a bunch of military surplus .50 cal. ammo cans and put the ammo in them, either boxed or loose. When My home was flooded in 98 the ammo I had stored in those cans survived unscathed. My guns didn't fare so well.

Chas has the best storage option.

Now, if you are NOT going to flood, using the steel and/or wood shelves are good, too.

Ahh the flood of 98, I remember it well. Those ammo cans are great though, and are relativity inexpensive.

Go to Costco or Sam's club and get one of the commercial grade "Gorilla Rack" storage shelving units. They're 7' high, five shelves, each rated to 1200 pounds. You can stack a lot of flats on each one (although I found adding another layer of plywood worked best)

AB-962 covers handgun ammunition.

If you want to stock up, don't waste the money and space on shotgun ammunition.

I use 20mm cans from the surplus store for shotgun ammo - http://west.loadup.com/military/surplus/1190.html . Wouldn't want to fill one up with .22LR ammo though, you'd never be able to move it...:D

40mm cans work OK too and are smaller - http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=513749 .

Most of the shotgun ammo I put in cans is buck or slugs in 5-round boxes, and they will fit pretty well into most any size can without a lot of wasted space. Only about 190- 200 rounds will go in a .50 can though, so I like to use bigger cans depending on what I can find. For 25 round boxes, how well they stack in the can will make a difference. I can't see 25-round boxes fitting very well in a .50 can, but I never tried them in one.

I keep all of my ammo (shotgun and handgun) in various dry boxes w/one "reactivating" dessicant (roughly 3x5" in length) per box.

I could not resist this one....Being the "manly man" than Arnold purports to be, Im surprised that he is not more "gun friendly." Oh well...politics as usual. :scrutiny:
