Reading one of the threads about ammo stored in a sometimes hot gurage made me think.

Ammunition that many of us keep for either long term storage either because we either have a lot of it or keeping a surplus for that just in case situation, one thought come to mind.

Food storage vacuum seal packages.

Thought is that if the ammunition that we have stored is in one of those properly vacuum sealed bags will keep the moisture & air away from the ammunition preventing those elements from causing damage to the ammunition & if kept in a relatively moderate temperature area like a basement the ammo would last for decades.

Ofcorse my thought would be to resupply at least every year or two & use the oldest stuff first..

Thoughts on this?
Part of me is thinking of the reloaders & the ones who purchase ammo in bulk mostly.

should this be in autoloaders?? nevermind.

It sounds like a good idea, but something has always rubbed me the wrong way about them vac-pack storage thingies.

I think a clean, dry ammo can with a little vasoline or grease on the rubber seal and an included dry-pack (I roll my own with coffee filters and flower drying agent from Micheals) will work just as well if not better.

If it's going to be on rotation I think it would be easier too, just date the cans and organize them that way. I have a 556 can full of .22LR and plan on getting some brand-new cans from ammotogo.com at some point in the future, so all of my ammo can be in them cans. Decided that I like them after getting the first one. Most of my ammo is in little plastic storage containers with some dry-packs and feeling very jealous of the 22 ammo right now.

Everyone has their own method I think.

They might work okay, but I have always thought sealed storage with just the ambient air is the best way. That is because of my lumber experience and admittedly it does not necessarily apply to ammo.
