Sorry if this is the wrong spot but didn't see any spot that might be more appropriate.

My question is what is surplus de-milled ammo and is it ok to use?

Yes, usually pulled apart and sold in pieces. Once it's broken down to components, it's not really ammo anymore though. If it can be fired, it's not demilled. The components are usually fine to use separately - a friend of mine got a great deal on some primed 7.62 brass and 147gr FMJ bullets that we put together into some range ammo for his CETMEs. Pull-down powder can even be used if you know the burn rate and can get some solid loading data for it.

Thanks for the replys. Some online retailer is selling ammo there calling demilled because the steel bullets were replaced. I just never heard of this type of ammo before.

Technically the term "demilled" means demilitarized. When applied to ammo, it can be ammo that was taken apart and the various components sold separately in bulk, or it could also mean ammo that has had the FMJ bullets removed and soft point reloaded in its place. If the bullet is the same weight and ogive is the same, it will function the same as the FMJ. However, if the weight is different or the shape significantly different, it will perform less well and might even be a safety issue. Exercise caution when buying what is essentially reloaded ammo.

KAC1911, I purchases a few ‘DE milled’ P14s, the British drilled a hold through the barrel in front of the receiver, the hole was close to .311” the hole was drilled through the barrel.,

I have purchased pull down powder and cases from different dealers in Houston, TX., KY. and OHIO, I have had the opportunity to purchase receivers that were cut, slides that were cut, normally in short pieces, that included frames. All were referred to as De-milled, then they went from cutting with a saw to using a sheer, the sheer fractures the metal like spider webs.

Then there was welding for parade and practice, many of those rifles have been returned to shooting form.

It would help if you posted a link.

Thanks again guys. It was for some 7.62x39 ammo. They did post a disclamer I just didn't ever see this type before. Probably not worth the saving.
