Funny I was going to mention the pocket police. There you have a gun that was widely rechambered for modernization and then became obsolete anyway.

You can't really worry about such things. If you buy a standard round gun and not a new wildcat you can avoid the disappointment most of the time and the high prices of non-standard ammo as well.
 
I reload for a .308 Norma mag. Try to find factory rounds for that one.
On top of that, my Son-in-law just inherited his Grandpa's .300 H&H mag. It's a pre-64 model 70 Win. and screams to be fired. I am finding brass hard to find. BTW, someone mentioned Graf's. I hadn't thought of them. VIOLA!! They have it, spendy, but available. Thought I might have to re-form some 375 H&H. Now I gotta go check my dies, I might have a set.
Most calibers that were once popular are doable. It just takes some perseverance. (fancy talk for being stubborn)
