What are your ammunition considerations this year? What makes you buy what you buy? What are you happy with and what aren't you happy with? Are you getting into new cartridges or trimming down to a few?

Everytime I say I'm going to cut out a caliber I somehow just expand the ones I already have. 9, .40, .357 sig, 45 ACP, 5.56, .223, .30 carbine, 5mm, .308, 5.7 x 28, 7.62 x 25 and 12 ga.....with that, I don't know where I could cut down....lol

How can anyone consider cutting a cartridge/chambering from the onboard lineup until there is one of everything on hand. It is impossible to do a comparison if both are not available at the same time. The goal should be "one of everything" and them a spare for emergency backup. I know I'll never make it but I'm trying and have been for over 50 years, as has been said; so far, so good, don't slack off now!!!!!!!!

I plan on getting me a 10mm die to go with my rather heavily used 9mm die. But beyond that ... Not much.
Reloading has let me shoot volumes that I couldn't have envisioned in the time "before." And I plan on doing even more of that now. My gun collection overall is largely driven by what I can afford to shoot a lot. So unless I reload a cartridge I don't own a gun chambered in it. This limits me to 9mm right now. Not that it's much of a limit. Soon I'll be able to look into 10mm as well. Oh hey, and .40 as well. I think the dies are interchangeable.

I shoot mostly off the bench for my own amusement. When the weather is good I get out about twice a week. Mostly .22 RF. It's less expensive, quiet and challenging at 50 and 100 yards. I say less expensive rather than cheap because the .22 LR target rounds aren't exactly cheap. I'm shooting a bit of Wolf MT and SK Standard, I'd consider these mid range in cost (~$50 a brick). I shoot some Tenex, but it doesn't seem to really help the groups in my rifle.

I have a Hi Point .45 acp carbine waiting for me at my FFl that I bought on a whim. It's just for busting tin cans and water jugs. Keeps my range partner (adult daughter) amused.:) I bought some dies and I guess I'll need to start making some .45's for that.

I'd like to add a CZ .22 Hornet and CZ 452 FS in .17HMR this year to reach out a bit, and fill the gap between the RF and my .22-250.

I was away from shooting for a stretch and when I eased back into it I made the decision to restrict the number of calibers. That turned out to be a joke.

I really enjoy having a variety of calibers and gun types.

I don't have any special ammo considerations, at the time. Any new revolvers I'm thinking about buying this year will be .357 Magnum. The aforementioned is subject to change depending if I fall into a deal.

I believe that the .357 Magnum handgun and cartage is the most adaptable option available.

I'm satisfied with what I have. For range practice and plinking, I use less expensive white box type ammo, but always from US makers; Winchester, Remington, Etc. I will never foul my guns with Wolf or other crappy imported stuff.

For self defense, I must have new and expensive, controlled expansion self defense ammo that I can be sure will penetrate and expand as advertised after passing through barriers such as leather, denim, dry wall, etc. For my .45's, it is Federal EFMJ, 200 gr. +P, of which I have a large supply. For just about everything else, I like Hornady's Critical Defense. I like Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel +P and magnum loads in my . 38 and .357 wheel guns.

Will any of this stuff work as advertised in a real world use of deadly force? I hope I never have to find out. I rely on my own testing and the manufacturer's reputation.

I load 38 Spl, 357 Mag, 380 ACP, 9x19 and 30-30. Nothing complicated. And I shoot as much 22LR as I do all the centerfire stuff combined.

I basically never buy factory ammo unless its SD ammo that seems like an improvement over what i use now. Mostly I have Gold Dot ammo for each handgun caliber, although I just bought 100 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense in 38 Spl+P. I also have 100 rounds of 9x19 CD backordered from Cabelas, but it looks like their Jan 21 deadline for shipping handgun ammo to CA will prevent me from getting that.

So my only plan is to spend about $100 on 9x19 Critical Defense the next time I drive out of state. I have enough components and 22LR ammo to cover all my shooting until I retire and move out of state.

I keep telling myself that I won't add any new calibers... but I do anyway.

Aside from that, my requirements are that is should 1) be dirt cheap (7.62x54r or .22LR) or 2) have components to reload. Preferably both.
