Years ago I got an AMT Lightning .22LR. I went out and shot it to make sure it worked, then I cleaned it thoroughly and haven't shot it since.

Recently I dug it out of the safe and examined it closely. I was just amazed at the quality of the piece and wondered if anyone else had one? From what I understand, Ruger sued AMT and forced them into stopping production. I always thought it was a shame they couldn't reach a legal agreement. Even if Ruger produced the gun using the changes AMT made, it would have been an excellent seller. The Clark trigger alone was a great change.

Here are some photos if you're interested:

Nice pics! I had a chance to buy one years ago, but it just seemed like a glorified Ruger. I'm older now, and wish I wasn't so quick to judge. How much better is the trigger? Actually, if you had to compare them, is it worth checking into finding one for any reason other than rarity?

Great photos Confederate! In addition to the Clark trigger you mentioned, I think the all steel, adjustable, Millet sight they used was superior to Ruger's adjustable sight and being grooved for scope rings was a nice touch.
I've never cared for the AMT magazines and use Ruger mags in mine.

The trigger in the AMT is definitely worth checking out if you're a target shooter. The Millet sights also are astoundingly better than Ruger's, but again, if you're a target shooter. If not, you can open the rear sights with a small file.

Greg, that's some barrel! I'd love one like that, but I'd have to register it in two states! What do you use it for?

I have one with the 10" bull barrel. I bought it new back in the 80's. It is built very, very well. I actually have a few other AMT pistols, the DAO Backups in 9 mm and .380. They have worked well for me, too.
