An Afternoon with Tommy

Just a note that NFA is alive and well in NE Ohio, where we trashed an otherwise quiet afternoon with about 400 rounds out of my brother's WWII Bridgeport 1928A1. Several full drums were fired non-stop, and a couple 20 rounders the same. The 30's seemed to lend themselves to bursts and aiming. I live in a rural neighborhood that used to be more rural than it is now, with neighbors on either side, and off to my SW, but firing NW off the corner of my lot has a good backstop, and a half mile of open field and woods beyond. The neighbors are used to regular gunfire, but full auto is just an occasional "treat" to their ears. No sheriff's deputies apparently were called, so we went unmolested. Whenever I hear full auto in the hands of law abiding, gun loving people, well, it sounds like the bells of freedom to me! Most of my usual "NFA" gunfire goes unnoticed, as I am more into suppressors.:D
 
If you don't mind, I'll relate an afternoon my great-uncle had with his "tommy".

On the Siegfried Line (Dragon's Teeth), during a lull in action, my uncle and his friend were eating canned peaches when a German artillary shell hit the tree they were under. His friend was killed and my uncle received a Purple Heart for the wounds he suffered. He recalled that when he "came to" he was already face-down on a stretcher. His Thompson was barely visible half buried in dirt and debris. He was attempting to retrieve it when a fellow soldier convinced him he wouldn't be needing it anymore.
He was a true combat veteran, and used many weapons during the war. The Thompson and a 1911 were his favorite...."as long as Uncle Sam was buying the ammo".
 
At our local subgun match today , we had two shooters who brought their Tommy's this month. I only got pictures of one as I was running the timer when they first shooter was up.

one of my favorite shooting experience involved a thompson. i was with several other officers who were qualifying with several full auto weapons owned by our department. lunch time came and the sgt. went to town with the range master. shortly after they left we found the thompson in the trunk of the sgt. car. one key fit every car. well by the time the sgt. returned we were out of ammo and every target stand was cut down.
i remember the thompson being as controlable as a waterhose as we unloaded the 30 round sticks.
 
Must be nice:(, I've always wanted one. I saw a Wednesday night show on the Outdoor Channel about a month or so ago where they covered a Zoot Suit Shoot. It looked awesome. Costumes, Tommy Guns, 1911s...what more do you need:D
