An end to the 6.5 vs 6.8 debate.

Just has a pinhole sized opening at the front end because the case is rolled back to front instead of front to back like a conventional FMJ round.

Plus the slight hollow cavity in the front of the projectile is used to move the CG (center of gravity) to the rear, thus enhancing stability and the long range ballistic co-efficient.

As Horse Soldier points out... it was not meant to, nor does it act like, a conventional hollow point round.

in my experience, the 556 is a just fine round, and you can carry a ton of them; the prob occurs when going up against hard or reinforced objects- for killing , they do a fine job.
If we could find something that fits in the exact same envelope, as well as the saw's, and fires somehting around 3000 fps, and is between 80 and 100 grains, this would be ideal. the closest thing I have ever heard of something like this, is the old Savage hipower; shoots about a 70 or 75 grain bullet at over 3100 fps- I think Hornady allready has a loading for this.

We cant design a cartridge around a gun if we want an optimal round we have to design a gun around a cartridge 6.5 and 6.8 are both compromises to fit into an existing gun

What debate? Neither is an adopted military cartridge anywhere. Both are commercial hunting cartridges only.
"...Preying for whirled peas..." What? Prey is something you hunt.
