6.5 Grendel vs 6.8 SPC

There is so much overlap in performance that to say one is better than another means cherry picking which traits you want to claim matter the most.
Shoot that's about 80% of our bandwidth lol.
What have you seen that causes you to believe that the 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC II aren’t adequate for deer size game
IMHO any line drawn is going to be arbitrary because there's so many other variables.
The 6.5 and 6.8 certainly offer a little more margin for error over a 223 but I'm just not sure exactly what the shot looks like that I wouldn't take with a well constructed heavier 223 bullet that I'd take with 6.5 or 6.8.
as for the 224 Valkyrie it was DOA because federal screwed up the twist rate and ammo at the launch it will never have the following of the first 2 mentioned
In Kat William's voice
"They screwed up ev er re thing"
I went down that rabbit hole only when I stopped chasing the hype that I realized what it did well was put the performance of a long barreled 223 loaded longer than SAAMI OAL sleek 80 grain class VLD bullets and shoot out to 1000 from a mag fed 20" AR.

Like I said before, it would have been a coin toss on which I would have gone with if the 6.5G had the same support as the 6.8 SPC when I built my 6.8 SPC upper years ago. And part of the reason I went with 6ARC on my last build is because there is little difference between the 6.5G and 6.8 SPC.

I am also considering changing the caliber of my 308 AR and have been looking at .243, 6CM, and 6.5CM. All three have similar performance for my requirements. So far 6CM is being considered simply for the fact that I can use the same bullets for it as I do for 6 ARC.

@12Bravo20 - check out 6 GT for your new barrel. Same bullets as your 6 ARC, but faster, and better barrel life than 6 creed. The Creed certainly has better market availability right now than the newer 6 GT, but factory ammo is out there, and coming more and more. I have a handful of 6 creeds and I like the round, but it drives me nuts that I’m replacing barrels twice as often as I could/should/would be with another cartridge choice.

I will checkout the 6 GT. Barrel life for the 6 CM is a big negative for sure. The main reason for me even wanting to change calibers is I need something with less recoil due to shoulder injuries. Yes I have already tried a muzzle brake on the PA10. While the brake helped, I still want something with less recoil.

I built the 6 ARC so I can continue to shoot longer distances while deciding what route to take with my PA10. I have hardly shot my Savage 308 in the last two years due to my shoulder injuries.

These days we are shooting 6.8 SPC more due to the ARP ballerls we had stashed and the availability of components.
And yes they are sweet shooters. Just stick to 11 twist barrels.

Usually when someone asks me what bullet should they should use for their 6.5 Grendel, my recommendation is 150 gr. Barnes. TSX. That should go through both sides of the receiver pretty easily.

I have a LWRC Six Eight complete carbine that does recommend a special Mag or Lancer GI mags that is just a wonderful format. I decided to get the Litner Wise gun because I think Paul LW and Remington thought the bolt face issue out well in 6.8 SP2 and in the AR format the bolt seems to be the key player .
