Hi,

I live in connecticut, and we still have AWB here (although we could take high cap mag) now. I am trying to buying some rifle (in this case a MSAR STG-556) from a free state. The only problem is the Flash Hider. The seller said that their store is willing to remove the FH and install a Muzzle Brake permatnly pinned to the barrel. This seems to comply with my state regularations. However, when I contact my local gun store to do the transfer. They said even after having the muzzle brake, this rifle is still illegal in CT since it was manufactured with a Flah-Hider on, so that defines it is illegal in my state, and later modification doesn't change this status.

I got really confused. I don't understand why he says so. For a law-abiding citizen, it now becomes more and more difficult for us. We have to comply with the law, however, it seems they could explain the law arbitrialy as they wish. This statement sounds almost like: If one is born as a slave, he\she will always be a slave!

Is this really true? or just the bull**** the store owner makes in order to sell his own things at a high price? Has anyone gone through this before? Your experince is much appreciated!

Sounds to be Bull, I've never heard that all that matters is what it ORIGINALLY had on it....

Out of curiosity, what IS your local shop?

Edit: To clarify, all the shops I've gone to regarding getting rifles to CT only care that it's in a legal config when it gets here. Regardless whether it was made in a legal config or not.

Don't ask, don't tell. If the rifle is compliant after the muzzle brake is installed, go to a different dealer. But it does sound like there might be some confusion, so check other gunshops to see if a similar rifle is available or better yet contact your district attorney's office or a pro 2nd Amendment lawyer to find what is or isn't compliant.

I've gotten a couple interesting responses from various gun shops in CT when i enquire about black guns in the gray area of the law....bottom line, if they don't know the laws, they shouldn't be in the business; and i won't give them my business.

If the gun is configured legally, it is legal; if not, it is illegal. Its pretty simple. The only exception to this is if the gun was in-state before the AWB, and you have the corresponding paperwork.

/I had some random guy telling me the flash-hider and bayonet lug on my FR7 is illegal at the range the other day....i let him go on for a while before pointing out that it is a C&R bolt action without a removable magazine, and therefore not subject to the stupid regs...

//How you can own a Saiga in 7.62x51 legally but the same type in 7.62x39 is illegal is really beyond me.

This is the example that worries me. They could say this, then they probabily could say that BS.

it sounds like you're having a DEALER problem...they want you to buy something they have in stock or order through them.

out here in CA, as long as a longgun is legal when it gets here, we're golden

^+1 that is exactly what it sounds like to me. if what the shop told you was correct, nobody would be able to buy an ar upper and have if fixed by a gunsmith. where are you in connecticut? i'm out near manchester and know of a guy who does ffl's on the side for a small fee.
