One of my local gunshops has an "870 Tactical" that made me a little curious. It appears to be a 20 inch barrel with the 3 shot extension, black synthetic forend and pistol grip stock, and I believe bead sight, not rifle. It's also finished in something green, similar to some of the Wilson/Scattergun Tech Armor Tuff finished ones. It's NIB.
So, of course, I pulled up the Remington LE website, and the "870 Tactical" as currently offered is a 14 inch bbl parkerized gun. In fact, the Tactical, 870P MAX, Standard, and Synthetic are all parked.
I'm guessing it's either a discontinued model or something brand new, but guessing often hasn't worked out well for me. So, does anyone know the story on these?

I'm perfectly happy with the 870 Police Magnum I have now, but I had been vaguely thinking about another one...

Logan5,

C'mon, my friend. Ya ain't no newbie here, got over 400 posts so far. 8^)

Right up at the top right hand corner of the front page of the Shotgun forum it says SEARCH THIS FORUM. Click on it, and a box will pop up. Type REMINGTON 870 TACTICAL GREEN and any other relevant words in the box, click on GO and see what you find.

Try it, you'll like it...

Whoops. I only searched "870 Tactical", left off the "green", and missed it. Anyway, thanks for the info. Still deciding if I think the green finish is silly or not.

Well, maybe not silly- it seems to be a trend. But some folks have mentioned on various fora that the finish doesn't seem too durable. I dunno, mine are all blued or parkerized.

Searching 'tactical' on about any gun forum is apt to overwhelm you with hits, have to narrow things down some with more terms to get anything out of the search most of the time.

what I bought instead

I took a pass on the green meanie, after looking it over in more detail.

Instead, at a different shop, I found something really interesting.

It's a Wingmaster stamped 870, parkerized, 18in bead sighted barrell, with the old corn cob forend. I haven't called up Remington yet, but the old internet date code search indicates a manufacture date of August, 1950 (?). And it's a 20 gauge. :)
