Earlier this week I acquired a .45 Colt Anaconda. I had miked the cylinder throats, and all are around .451 or .452.

The first trip to the range (with me) was this Saturday, and all went very well, with both cast and jacketed bullets. My loads were a little warmer than factory loads, but were not into the "Ruger Only" category.

I was very pleased with the handling and the balance.S/A shooting was great, and the D/A was OK. I will need to practice more on D/A with the gun, as the feel is quite different than my S&W and Ruger D/A revolvers.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the gun, which is my first Colt revolver in eight or so years.

Anaconda!

I have a 6 inch stainless Anaconda in .45 Colt as well! I used to have a 6 1/2 inch Smith 29 but I like the Colt much better. Takes my heavy loads with ease and is accurate to boot! I used it to take a whitetail in Montana 2 years ago. 250 grain XTP and 26 grains of 296. Does about 1470 from my gun and produces 4 inch groups at 100 yards in my hands! That's about 1200 pounds of muzzle energy! The Anaconda doesn't even kick much with this load! Doesn't shoot my cowboy lead loads well though. I'll have to work up a load it likes for plinking. I have 4 guns that shoot the .45 colt. My favorite caliber.

1+ for the Anaconda!

I recently picked up a 6" .45 Anaconda at a gun show. I like it much better than the S&W Mountain Gun I used to have. I just wish it had nice tight throats like Bob C's. Mine mic at about .458. It shoots the 250 gr. XTP really well though. And it's a pussy cat even with stout loads. I hope to take a Texas whitetail with it this fall. It will also be my sidearm for a New Mexico elk hunt in December.
