the proper response to slipping unrelated legislature (that can't pass on it's own) into a bill.

If you locked me and Bill Frist into a room... :fire:

I'll take the high road and say no more.

"See, I told you I'd introduce legislation to outlaw the 7th inning stretch and I did, it's not my fault it didn't pass"

Laughing out loud.

That's a good summary of the "1st Day Bills."

Universal Healthcare is long overdue! Medicare and Medicaid where good for the hospitals to rip off the people and the gov. now its time to fix that mess. Sorry just telling it like it is!

You rip on Medicare and Medicaid, but advocate an even bigger government program? Eentresting.

and lets not forget the bill failed on the first floor vote and went back for a re-vote after even more pressure was put on the blue dogs and the CBC to pass it.
I thought it passed by a large margin?

I thought it passed by a large margin?

It passed by a fair margin (30-40 votes in the House IIRC), but only after Clinton and the leading dems in support of the bill really put the screws on the CBC and the blue dogs. Once it failed on the first floor vote, all the stops were pulled out and the really serious arm-twisting began. In the wake of the 1994 elections where dems were tossed out en masse, even Clinton admitted the republican sweep was mostly due to the NRA and the ban on "assault weapons". Don't think that lesson has been lost on Obama - he's no dummy and his cabinet consists of Hillary and a lot of people from the Clinton administration.
