Another AR Newbe

so, a friend of mine bought one of the last legal ARs in CA. I'm the 'gun guy' he knows (vanishing breed here...we're not all gone but either underground or leaving the state!).

So, the question is, besides normal gun tools, what tools do we need? I'm not talking about gunsmithing, but just basic stuff... I see these multi wrenches everywhere online, what do we need? Then which is either best (because other stuff isn't as good) or enough (because I don't need a Cadillac but just a Ford...).

Unless you're planning on changing out receiver extension, hand guard, barrel, etc., you don't need anything. No tools required for normal maintenance of the AR platform.

Regular maintenance requires no tools. If he decides later on to swap barrels or change handguards then you'll need a good barrel wrench. But really the AR requires no tools for normal maintenance and tear down.

Don't buy any tools until you need them, and you only need them if you are taking off stocks, barrels, etc.
