Gave dad some dies and other things so he gave me this marlin 22 with the Mossberg 20 ga.

I'm not sure on the model, think it's a A-1 by what's on the barrel, 22 lr only (smokeless greased)
The stock is military trainer like and the sling loops.it's a semi auto, rear sight I don't think is original and the peep is missing, unfortunately the stock was cut some for the peep but does not seem original. has the mag 5 or 7 shot I'd guess.

anyone know about these, I have a feeling it may shoot good.

Numrich shows a semi-buckhorn style rear sight. No peeps listed
I'm not a fan of buck horns so I'll probably leave the rear sight thats on it, fits nice anyway. For the peep think it's a marlin 12 peep, not sure if any other will work. I have a Williams I think I can make work, won't be pretty but if it works I won't mind if much.

Shot the marlin A-1DL today, got the windage perfect when I put on the rear sight. Shot some blaser and American eagle, about 20 rounds each. Standing about 20 yards was a quarter to half dollar sided group not bad at all. They were about a inch high, I'll have to file down the elevator I made.

Hope to get it on the bench one day with some more ammo to see that it will do, working on making a peep sight as well.

Gun ran fine, I need to maybe polish some the first round when you pull the bolt back didn't go home every time on the first round. It feed great but the mag is a pain to load into the gun with 7 rounds, I just load 5 anyway.

I always thought those were cool rifles, nice score!

Ya, the Marlin 12R sight is nice, I have one on my M80E, but will cost you more than the gun is likely worth.
There are several on Ebay right now-

One neat feature of that sight is that those rifles originally came with both a large "hunting" aperture and a smaller "target" aperture. The extra aperture could be screwed into the end of the elevation adjustment knob-

This one looks weird because I had Apertures and More make me a long-shank version, but you get the idea, lol.

Wish I had the money at least this one comes with both bases, really wish the little bit of wood was not taken out of the stock. I don't have any money in this gun but it's a lot. Dad brought out a marlin 81 today and it shot well.

The wood was probably relieved because someone had a Lyman 48 or something similar on it at one point and needed clearance for the mast.

Good find, I have an old Marlin 80DL bolt action and an A1DL. Both are excellent shooters.
It’s not uncommon to find DLs minus peep sights, they’re usually worth as much as a functioning rifle. But there’s quite a few other sites that can be substituted. There’s a guy on eBay that sells replacement aperture disks as well.

A1DLs have unique mags but you can modify 80/25 series mags by notching the back to allow the bolt to clear. You can find those cheap on AmericanRifleMagazines.com, they make older Marlin mags.

Ya I've read about using 80 mags, would be nice having another for range work.
