I just leafed through a Guns and Ammo: Handguns Magazine article about that extreme shock ammo. What an idiotic article. The guy just basically repeats all of the company's sales spiel. He did all this gel testing (I'm sure the gel wasn't properly calibrated) and "shoot through drywall" testing (which seems to be the latest trend in backyard bullet testing). He specifically says in the article that the fang face ammo is designed to penetrate 14 inches (of course they're going to say that as that's roughly the standard for penetration in just about any legit law enforcement agency that does ammo testing as well as the FBI standard). The guy showed a picture of the gel block with a .357 fang face round in it with a ruler next to it. The furthest piece barely penetrated almost to eight inches and yet in his piece he's saying the ammo performed exactly as advertised! That level of obvious journalistic whoring is despicable.
He showed some gel blocks for other rounds that barely penetrated 6 inches.
No, I'm not surprised at this as it's a regular occurence in the gun rags...this one is just so blatant though! The author's name was Phil Johnston. At the end he's referring to Extreme Shock's dubious claims that these are designed for the Federal Air Marshall's and says something to the effect of "I sure hope this really is what our air marhsall's are using!" Personally I DON'T as I prefer the terrorists DEAD.
