Hello,
I have this Model 10 S&W .38spcl. I learned to shoot handguns with this very revolver. It has no dash Numbers after the Model # and has a Serial Number of C485xxx. I would like to know when this gun was made. It Shoots Nice and has a Super Smooth Trigger pull. Now that I reload I probably have shot it more in the last year then I have since I learned to shoot with it. My Grandfather asked me one day If I would like to Have it as he's getting old and dont need it around anymore. What a Cool Gift....Priceless IMO.

Thank You In advance.

That is a very cool gift - you must be his favorite grandson. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson indicates 1961-1962 as the approximate date for your revolver. You know its a heirloom now and you've got to pass it on when the time comes to the next generation, and its a great gun to teach your kids to shoot with. Ask him if he bought it new in the early 1960's and what he paid for it.

1961-1962, most likely 1962.

The Model 10-1 came out in 1959 as a heavy barrel, but the tapered barrel continued as the Model 10.

Nice revolver!

Every person that likes handguns owes it to him/herself to own at least one model 10 pencil barrel during their lifetime.

Excellent, sir. I also have a family hierloom Model 10, and I do love reloading for it as well. Get into casting, and really have cheap fun!

Is there some type of Model 10/M&P convergance going on? I've noticed an unusual number of threads regarding this great revolver noy only on THR, but other forums as well.

I have one just like it that was my grandfather also i have the original box and recipt where he bought the gun 2 boxes of shells and a set of reloading dies and it cost he 69.59 for it all mine is in 98 percent condidtion and i agree a heirloom congrats on a great handgun

Wow,
I absolutely agree that it is Priceless. It will be passed down (Along with the Belt and Holster) one day to my son or daughter if they happen to like Firearms. I will ask the Buying Price,But I do know it was Bought in Big Springs TX. (small insignificant piece of info) The Wooden Grips are original with matching numbers written in Pencil on the inside panels. The Gun was Carried Daily and shows The Great Character of Holster Wear. I had Mentioned the possibility of maybe sending it back to S&W to get Rebuilt and reblued. The Looks and comments I got from other Gun owners pretty much assured me that I will not even consider such a Blasphemous act Ever again.....:what:.LOL

Owning and reloading for this Gun has brought me more Joy then My Glock has ever provided. <-----I never Thought I would Ever Say that about "Dumb Revolvers"...I am Now Mostly a Wheel Gun shooter by the Looks of my collection.

A Friend once Commented That the S&W Model 10 is like the Small Block Chevy of revolvers as there are Millions on this Earth . Still to this day there is Many Many that are around, alive and ticking.

Thank You for the info and timely responces.
