another new gun thread

Hey folks, I know you probably get this alot. I'm relativaly new to pistols, and am looking for a good centerfire auto I can use for a first centerfire pistol. I'm thinking 9x19, and relativaly inexpensive. As of the moment I'm looking at the Beretta 92fs, the S&W M&P 9, and springfield xd-9. I know all of these are great guns, and I'd probably be happy with any of them, but was wondering what you folks had to say about them, any quirks or odditys you found, frequent problems, if any. I plan on shooting for the sake of shooting, I want something accurate, but not necessarely match grade. I don't plan on carrying. Like I said this would be my first centerfire pistol, but I am not new to firearms.

Hard to choose from those designs, but I just don't like the Berettas, I haven't shot the Smith, so I'd go with the XD.

If it doesn't have to be one of those three I'd suggest the Witness Elite Match, very accurate, really well finished, and cheaper than all three at $399 here in Houston, maybe up to $459 in other parts. Definately not a carry gun though, it's a big pistol, big adjustable sights, very light and smooth single action trigger. I limit mine to IDPA and range shooting.

If you like the M&P, you should check out the S&W 910.

It's an older design with a DA/SA trigger and the dang thing simply refused to malfunction when I had one. It takes 59-series mags (cheap and plentiful). They are fairly accurate and good shooters in general. Also, you could probably acquire one for very little $$$.

92's are also great guns, but I feel obliged to point you twords the FN Hi-Power. You will find some great deals on them if you look around and you may like the feel of it. They are worth considering, anyway...

Of your options, I'd go w/ the 92fs - great gun, fun to shoot & very reliable & accurate. It's what I learned on & still have 2 in the collection.

Which 9 to buy?

Witness and XD are my choice of the guns mentioned. All will work fine though.
Pick em all up, handle them a little, if one flics your Bic then buy it and don't look back.

Of the three you mentioned all are quality firearms. My suggestion is aline all three on the counter. Pick them up individually, grip, point, work the slide and pull the trigger. If possible, see how each one breaks down. You'll know immediately which one is right for YOU.

I am a big Taurus fan. I own two Taurus 24/7 Pro's in .40 cal and they are an extremely reliable gun with a lot of features that you find in more expensive guns. You can get a Taurus for 370-400 no matter where you live. It has a lifetime repair policy. Comes with a polished feed ramp, double recoil spring and a loaded chamber indicator. I have thousands of rounds through mine and never even a hiccup, zero fail to fire. Has the BEST grip out there, very comfortable. The witness is a good gun, but you do not get as much for the money. My other choice is the Xd I own two of those in .45 acp-awesome product also. You get a little more mag capacity with the Taurus, less money and the Lifetime repair policy.
