The American Rifleman reviewed yet another O/U largebore derringer/ At least they were truthful about the recoil!
WOW a .45 Colt?
Yes the big calibers KICK!
A standard .38 Special is about right.
It's right on the limits of being controllable, it doesn't sting your hand. and it has ample power to actually be a defense gun. With a sealed barrel, it just might shoot a little harder tha a 2" revolver?
It's funny, for all the bad press the O/U has lived through, they still make em! Must be some merit to the design and application of the gun!
I've had both a .little .22 ( for fun) and a .38 for fun and if absolutely necessary a back-up for my Model 36. (Faster than a reload.) I wish I could afford a Ruger LCR for that purpose but retirement limits ya!
Back to the Derringer, it's worked even with the pipsqueak original 44 rimfire and with a .38 Special is no slouch at all! Not too accurate past card table distances but then it wasn't meant to shoot long range anyhow.
Since 1863 it's been good enough, I wonder how much longer it will be?
