Does any one have any experience w/a randall 1911 or charles daly?I have an opportunity to buy a commander sized one and know nothing about these two-except cd is made by armscor.Thanks.

Randall has gone belly up -- that should tell you something. Have a minor collector following because they made a left-handed 1911.

Search for my threads about my CD EMS and Armscor45. Assuiming the ones I bought at gun show retail are typical, they represent great value. My CD had some minor and easy (for me) to fix problems out of the box, but is going great with over 4200 rounds now, my Armscor 45 has been 100% out of the box, over 600 rounds now.

OTOH, if I judged all Colts by my first one I'd declare them to be junk. Two out of three of my Colts needed work out of the box to function 100%, the first major, the second minor (came with defective slide stop that randomly locked the slide open with any ammo, swapping slide stops with my Norinco made the Norinco randomly lock back and the Colt work 100%).

I've only one Springfield, it was not problem free out of the box -- mis-fires because of loose firing pin retainer. Lots of FTE until I increased the extractor tension. I'd not declare them junk because of this, but if I buy another I'll be looking it over much more carefully!

I've four Kimbers -- only problem has been the mags Kimber ships. Needed to replace the recoil spring and increase extractor tension on my Ultra Carry after maybe 800 rounds, many consider this normal maintainence for 3" 1911 guns.
In terms of trigger and accuracy my CD and Armscor45 compare vary favorably, Kimbers seem a bit better, but certainly not better proportional to the 2X+ cost.

I was wondering how a cd really held up,I looked at one and the fit seemed very good.I was looking at a cd stainless commander nib for 450.00.I paid 640.00 for my s/a loaded parkerized and the fit and finish on the cd looks as good or better.I know looks can be deceptive,but-I was wondering if it was the chance.thanks for the info.

Randal did not go belly up due to poorly made guns.

I have one Randall that I bought before knowing anything about them, I have no complaints about the quality

What's the price range

I knew of a guy who bought a CD.
Although it was a fine [ok] gun and was just yur BASIC 45. by no means fancy or tricked, but functioned fine. The guy succumbed to gun ad pressure and sold it for a Kimber. I know for a fact it gave him no trouble.

Just cause it's a Colt, really does not make it better. more collectable and value in that sense, yes. I had a series 70 Commander that was the tits to look at, but it malfunctioned all the time, even after Colt and another smith tried their best to make it run. It ended up cracking the dust cover, and I sold it to the smith that did all the work.

Since then, I'm shootin Springfields. Both mine, made in Brasil, [stamped right on it] have functioned flawlessly since owning them. One is the loaded package 5", the other, their answer to the commander, the champion.

Good luck in your decision.

The price range is 450.00 for ss cd,and 550 for randall.both brand new in box.The randall was supposedly made in mid 80"s.I was really more interested in the cd.If s/a made a milspec-not gi in a champion/commander size I would likely buy it.I'm just looking for a gun to learn some minor part switching/fitting on.I really don't won't to experiment on my loaded s/a.

All Randalls were made from Jun 83 till May 85.

They were supposedly the first all SS service 1911

If the serial # ends with C it's a Caspian made frame I don't remeber what a W indicates

If it's a standard Commander size there were only about 900 made.

The Blue Book rates them at somewhere around $700 for 100%

I've seen Service models for sale at $1100 I seen them actually sell at $800 The guy that owned mine before me paid $1390

I don't know if I would buy one for part swapping though

Armscores are FANTASTIC guns. Mine is dead accurate and reliable.. You cannot go wrong with an Armsore IMHO.
