Got a chance to buy a Charles Daly 1911. Thoughts???

I've got a chance to pick up a Charles Daly 1911 just like this one:

for the grand total of.............$300

I know absolutely nothing about Charles Daly guns, and my only 1911 is a Colt Delta Elite. Feel free to fill me in on them. I'd probably buy the gun to flip it, as I have a few other pistols I want right now.

I would grab it at that price. I love mine. Great shooter and accruate.I paid close to $500 new about 1 year ago. Fit and finish are very nice.

It's not new. A friend of a friend has it. My friend was going to pass on it and let me get it, but now he's thinking he wants it. I didn't really have any interest in it to keep for myself as I'm actively looking for a couple of other pistols.

It's made by Armscor in the Phillipines. Cast frame and extruded slide. It's basically the Rock Island but with a blued finish. Charles Daly stopped selling them a while back because they couldn't compete on price with Rock Island which is Armscor's own brand.

Yes, it was most likely made by Armscor, which is a good thing, but CD also had other vendors making their guns. They don't use Armscor anymore, but it's not because of the RIA pricing.

I owned one. Traded it and $200 for a Colt Commander. Its a great gun. For some reason the slide wouldn't always lock back after the last round. If I had held onto it I probably would have looked into figuring out the problem because they are fine 1911s for the price, in my humble opinion.

But, in these particular times and pretty much in general, I want guns made in the USA. There are exceptions to my own rules but not many.

The slide not locking back was probably a magazine issue not a gun issue. I've owned a couple of RIAs and they're great shooters. For that price I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Just check to make sure it hasn't received any dremel attention by a non-gunsmith. Home throat & polish jobs are a big factor in fueling the myth that all 1911s are unreliable...
