Ok, so Ruger likes to play "What's the new gun gonna be". This time they showed a production line in their factory in Mayodan NC as a hint on facebook.

I happen to know that they only make one firearm in Mayodan so I have a good guess that it is a variation of that rifle.

Here is the link to enter

Go to their facebook page to see the photo of their production line (it is really not much help though.)

No big mystery that Mayodan makes the American Rimfire bolt action. It would be a good bet to assume the new rifle would be a variation. So far Ruger makes a standard 22" bbl and compact 18" bbl version in 17, 22lr and 22 mag with or without threaded bbls. Current models are blue steel.

A stainless steel version would be the next logical choice.

Personally, I would like to see an even more compact 16" bbl stainless rifle with a threaded barrel and peep sights.

Hey, maybe a takedown bolt action with a 16" bbl. That would be cool.

BTW, the stock on the RAR has the removable modules and is hollow. Lots of room in there to store stuff.

These are some more pictures they released about the new product. It is a rifle. Some of you are saying American rimfire which might be a good guess but I thought the contest said it was like $550-$950 which is a lot more expensive than the American. Is it another version of the m77 or mini-14 or is it something completely new finally?

My bet is they are going to start building something new at the Mayodan plant, the $550 - $950 price range they gave is way too expensive for any extension of the RAR rimfire line. Also, Ruger said they saved the best for last, which is good, because some of the other "Unannounced Products" were kind of lame. Here's hoping its a .44 carbine or maybe a Sub2k style PCC.

.... or perhaps an affordable double rifle
.... or perhaps a copy of the ever-delayed CMR/RMR-30
.... or perhaps a line of Ruger suppressors.

The boxes kind of look shotgun-ish to me though.

In actual street price, yes it is. But the Predator and Ranch models of the American have MSRP of $489.
If they did something like add some spiffy sights and a slightly nicer stock or something, i could see them slapping another $70 onto the price tag which puts it right in the bottom of the price range they gave.

Hell, they could just add a scope to the American and sell it as a package the way Savage has some package guns. That alone could bump the MSRP into the predicted territory.

Eh, the American Rimfire's that they currently make at the Mayodan plant top out at an MSRP of $359. It would be tough to make an American Rimfire that got well into the above price range and still be remotely competitive. I strongly suspect that this is an altogether new product release. The Mayodan plant is pretty new, I'm sure they'll manufacture something other than just American Rimfires there eventually, might as well start now.

If the new gun is a Mini 30 with a wood stock, I'll make sure that Ruger is $800 richer :D

Like others have been saying, 500 bucks doesn't sound like a rimfire type MSRP. My first thought is that this is a whole new product, but after the "brand new" Scout Rifle, I am preparing for another really lame knock-off.

Hmmmm, perhaps finally something really new from their new plant? They do have one gaping hole in their lineup....

Here is another picture Ruger showed of it. It has a flash hider but there is too much barrel on the end compared to their other AR's so I wouldn't think it is another AR from them especially cause of the price point. It could be mini in .308 as some people are saying but then it would most likely have sights and I would think the price point would be higher unless it is right at the top of the price range at $950. Maybe they will be bringing back their .44 carbine.

Huh, they didn't use the same flash hider as they did on the GSR did they? That flash hider also looks kind of small for a .308. They show a lot of barrel with no gas system attached... I'm leaning towards PCC or a copy of the CMR-30, Something that uses blowback or recoil operation. Or I guess it could just be a Fugly bolt gun... the straight taper thin-ish barrel and flash hider would be pretty homely on most any bolt gun.

Where are you guys finding those pictures? The original link posted doesn't work for me. It says there are no active flash sweepstakes

They are on Rugers facebook page

This should be a pistol caliber carbine along the same lines as the Mini. The mini was popular until the AR-15 took it out of the game. My guess, for what it's worth, will be something like the mini only in 9 mm. It would be a fun plinker and a serious home defense rifle with a 30 round mag. Ammo would be about 10 cents a round cheaper than 5.56 also. If they made a mini in 45 acp I would buy it in a heart beat.

The only fly in the ointment on a PCC or mini type rifle, is the picture shows an awful lot of barrel with no front sight on it... It kind of looks like what you would see on an AR set up with a pistol length gas system for 300 BLK.... Yet another AR, be it 300 BLK or not, would be a very snore-ific new product.

I've got to change my vote to the new product being an ugly bolt gun, a new PCC seems too good to be true.

Could be a view from the bottom of the barrels.
