Looking at thinning my father's guns to a more manageable level and this is another firearm that I have no use for.

Never heard of SKB Arms of Japan. Sweet little 28ga with beautiful wood and engraving. Very nice shape. No idea what it's worth. Will likely list it on Gunbroker.

Why sell it? I have over 50 firearms worth around $100k and the cost of insurance and stress level is significant. I want to get down to under 30 guns that either I have a real use for or have significant sentimental value that will stay in the family.

This shotgun, while very cool and beautiful, doesn't fit in either category...

A good friend owns one he purchased new in the mid 70's for what was then a very affordable price. They are not made anymore and it is my understanding that quality is excellent and that they are worth quite a bit these days.

They are good quality guns. Around $1500-2000 is a good average.

Here's a recent sale:

skb shotguns are excellent shotguns and a sleeper value if you stumble on one used. SKB, which stands for Sakaba was in business for 450 years . They went out of business a few years ago and the name and tooling was sold to a company in Turkey (Akus and akdas). I have a 12 ga sxs made for ithaca
sorry , i don't know the value but i'll guess at least $1000.00 . it will be a good shooter for someone interested in a 28 ga sxs.

Several models but this looks like a 280E. I have a 200. I wouldn't take $1K for mine. Some had a tendency toward stock cracks.

A very nice box lock double. SKBs are lightweight and well made.

SKBs in 12 and 20 gauge are well regarded in cowboy action shooting. It’s hard to find one in good condition under $1000 now.

What we do to these shotguns would make an upland bird shooter cry.

Having seen and shot several of those little SKB's over the years I can say that one has better looking wood that most of them.

Without getting into a debate, the original box will add a good bit more in value to some. I would like to think that any reputable shop would look up "market value" for you, but I'd expect a fair bit more at auction since it's a niche' item.
