Could someone tell a noob what he's looking at? What are all the "ooohhhs" and "aaahhs" about?

MJ, post #13: that's a beauty, but what the heck is it? Caliber, make, country, year? Would love to own one, but would like to know more!

I probably shouldn't post this, 'cause MJ can beat me in terms of goodies, and possibly will beat me physically, but I was bored on a sunday afternoon...

I recognized the Hakim (it's the receiver shape and the fiddly bit on top) but the other is a Ljungman? Nifty.

I also hate MJ.

:D

i am gonna go out on a limb and say these are hard to get? :cuss:

I have always wondered if there was a semi auto 7.62x54r rifle out there Now I know And want one ASAP> :what:

I have several cases of ammo that needs shooting. :neener:

I had one of these in 1957 that my Dad took in trade for a TV repair for a Marine pilot at the El Toro air base. So when I was offered this I picked up on a whim to relive the memories.

oh I don't hate MJ nor am I jealous, love to see great photos.

In fact I have aquiring a few things lately, and am preparing my own photo sessions in the near future, and maybe.....at some point MJ will reply to me "I hate you" "I'm jealous" and then I will spark up a big fat cigar and enjoy the moment.:p

btw,I just today recieved a SVT bayonet in the mail, and a 1909 Argentine mauser bayonet, and a Swiss sawback......to match along with newer aquired jems soon to be posted here for MJ to marvel at.Yes soon I'll will be shamelessly boasting......

ok just for now a dated photo or 2.....got this back in 95 when they were going for $450 to $500,saw them on gunbroker recently,oh how times have changed.

My Mosin whips it though, even though the SVT's brrel is pristine.

What's the fuss about SVT-40? There are more than few laying around. I would understand the Ooh&Aah's when we'd be talking about AVT-40. There is one around that I know about, and now that's cool, it was also supposed to be some sniper version..

Mosin whips the SVT-40?

Saw one in a store, thought about buying it (didn't, had just bought a rifle that day). How are they? Easy to clean? Temperamental at all?

The latest temptation I've seen is an SAFN-49, already have a G-43!

I'm so jealous....hey if you watch GI JOES you can actually pick up some REALLY good deals on some older rifles, they have no idea what they are doing at GI JOES so they sell them pretty cheap sometimes.

I just picked up a Mosin at Big-5 Sporting goods for a decent price. Now I just need some decent weather so I can get outside to shoot it.

As far as Joes goes.... I refuse to go in the door. They ban all modes of carry (including ccw) in their stores. That means I ban all modes of spending my money in their stores.

The hate in this thread is palpable. I've got 3000+ rounds of 7.62x54R I can't even get anyone to NIBBLE on and I don't have jack @#$@ to shoot it through.

It makes me mad, I tell you.

Hmm...

I don't usually use this picture, since the Johnson and tigers are more popular, but let's head west a bit...

mj.....will u adopt me im 17 and will only be around for a few more months lol

nice rifles man

btw i come with 5 guns

Sorry man, I'm not into WWII rifles. The SVT-40 sure is nice, accurate and reliable rifle (when not in the hands of illiterate and pretty much idiotic peasant soldier, from where the rumors started stating the rifle unreliable), pleasant and quick to shoulder, acts very well; and it's good that they are in good hands, instead of rotting in some 3rd world hole. But giving out oohs and aahs over some rifles? They're tools, marking some era, some being more rare than others.

I have an offer here, selling off Finnish version of Mosin Nagant M39 rifles, named Sk.Y, so you won't get me jealous with yours ;) You know, I just might buy one, for fun. Not that it's a rarity or something, but it's supposed to be pretty accurate.

How often, if ever, do you shoot those rifles (SVT, M-N SN, G43)?

my comment that my Mosin whips my SVT,yes it does in accuracy in my hands, though I shoot the Mosin more often.I shoot the SVT on rare occassions, even less now that ammo has climbed and I will not shoot any corrosive ammo specially in the SVT.Yes I know cleaning after will be alright but I just don't want to.

I have been giving more thought to photo backgrounds and am planning some things for soon with my mil-surps.I never got into collecting sniper mil=surps though, just prefere iron sights.

Like most mil-surps,once the availbilty drys up prices climb, one thing I kick myself for is not getting more of the Enfields that were being sold in the wrap and also getting a MAS36 back when they were $100.I learned my lesson since then and get whats abundant if I can,one day the K31's will be $600 or more.Mosins will eventually go up too.

What really kills me is the price of just a run of the mill surplus m1911a1....it's rediculous.

Medusa if you don't like the rifles why are you posting here? If you don't have anything to add in a positive not why not keep you opinion to your self and not show all these nice people what a negative person you are. I also don't see you stating what you do like whiche makes me think your a poser fishing for an argument.

I try and shoot one or two a week with a bit of load testing. I have been working on the Yugo Privi bullets because the Sierra matchkings have gotten very costly. The results are OK but add 13mm at 100 meters but it seems to hold well at 300 meters not growing more than 10% at 400 meters.

The Sierra MK's cut this in half. At $35 for 100 pellets I save them for sreious work.

So Medusa if your old enough to use a public or private range and maybe rent a live rifle what do you shoot? If you shoot. Have a nice day.

Cheers to all ther positive posters here.
