Hello Everyone,

I've been reading lots of threads about the safety concerns of Steyr M series, frankly I'm a Noob and an idiot about gun design and safety issues. The reason why I'm reading these threads is that I just bought an M9 and really like the workmanship and the way it shoots.

I do remember a long time ago that my brother owned a Glock showed me that after many rounds through the Glock, the guide rails that are implanted into the plastic sides of the glock would wear itself down. (During that time I didn't care for guns but I did understand his explanations.)
Now the question that I have here is that:

Does anyone have any public documentation on how unsafe this gun is?
Has there ever been a story written about how unsafe the M series are?

Like I said, I have as much knowledge of pistols mechanics as a box of animal crackers so I'm not pro or con about this, I just want to clear this up with factual documentation and not from (very smart) people going back and forth about safety issues.

the reason why I brought this up is that, theres alot of very knowledgable people here and your opinions do count. I'm just afraid of people ruining the reputation of a reputable company.

I personally do not care for glocks (shot it one time) but I'm not anywhere in a state to talk trash about them.

Even if the cards are against Steyr, I still like my M9 very much and would compare it to Sigs and HK's in workmanship and materials. I've only found 2 really good reviews on the M series and they seem to be very positive about the gun:

www.handgunreviews.com has some positive reviews about the steyr (although they mis-spell it in the review as steyer). two_blink is very knowledgable about the Steyr's as well, take what he says seriously even though he didn't write a paper (as far as I know). You may have already done this, but there are a couple threads with the debate, read them if you haven't.

The rails on the Steyr are not molded into the plastic frame a la Glock, but instead they are part of a steel frame that has a plastic covering molded around it. The nice thing about the Steyrs is that the frame rails don't fall off... ;)

Aside from that, I don't want to get into anymore grumping matches with Handy or anyone else for that matter. I respect Handy's opinions and he makes some very valid points, but for the life of me, with all of my tinkering in the Steyr design, I find it safe.
