Current collection:
Bulgarian AK-47 copy in 7.62x39
CZ P-01 with Kadet Kit
Saiga-12 conversion
Sig P226

I'm considering selling/trading the Sig and getting one of the following:
- .44Mag mountain gun for hiking, probably in 4"
- Savage MkII .22LR bolt-action with peep sights
- Ruger 10/22 with a target barrel OR Thompson R-55 Sporter
- .308 bolt action for elk hunting and target shooting (boss wants to take me).

What do y'all think?

If you are serious about the Elk hunting trip then definitely get the .308 and start working with it. Elk can be very challenging and you need to be proficent with your weapon before you take to the field.

Otherwise, get a .22 rifle. I personally don't think I could keep house without a .22 rifle! :)

What caliber is the 226? I had a 9mm many moons ago. I used to have 6 SIGs, now I have 2... but not because they aren't great guns. But I digress.

I would get a .308. My personal favorite at the moment is my Remington 700P LTR. It serves just about every purpose I can imagine needing a .308 bolt action for. .308 is a very versatile round, I wouldn't be without one.

For elk I would bump up to 30-06 - the most common and versatile round.

.44s are painfull to shoot. I would go for 5" or 6 1/2" if only for extra weight. I would recommend the full-lug model.
This 5" Classic is a beauty.

I vote for 44mag in what ever barrell length you want... I would love a short 44mag for the woods.
