Anti Gun Senator (R.C. Soles) Shoots Intruder (merged threads)

This should be a lesson to some of the folks who think if you shoot an intruder or even someone who threatens you, you will just explain to the cops and there will be no problem. But here is an elderly state senator who wounded (not killed) an intruder and has been indicted for a criminal offense. No one seems to doubt that it was self defense, but he still will have to stand trial and pay huge lawyers' fees.

So take note, you "just shoot him and walk away whistling" guys. Any time you shoot or kill someone, you are liable to getting your fanny in a deep crack. Just telling the cops it was self defense won't work.

Wow, you talk about a guy reaping what he's sown. Still upset he's getting flack for apparently just protecting himself and his home though.

Much has been made of "reaping what you so", etc - but after reading this thread I still haven't seen any evidence that the Senator is a supprter of 2A infringing gun control laws. It's possible I missed it, so if anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it.

you will just explain to the cops and there will be no problem.
Mistake number one, IMO; explaining it to the wrong person.
Right on.

Further OT:

What happens though if a thug breaks and you drop him? What, do you call 911 but say nothing? If you've predetermined to never let a gov. anybody in without a warrant, what's a man to do?

Perhaps it's best to drag the guy outside rather than inside as the ninjas advocate, eh? ;)

Thread # 10 link

Hey guys, look at that link. Soles was the Lawyer (and he GAVE HIM MONEY) for the other guy in this incident. I don't know what to think, but is it possible the "Intruders" were just knocking on the door, and asking for more money? We will see what the GJ comes up with.

Anti-Gun Senator Shoots Intruder - commentary posting option

TABOR CITY, N.C. — A sheriff says a North Carolina state senator shot one of two intruders at his home and hospital officials say the man is in fair condition.

Multiple media outlets reported that Columbus County Sheriff Chris Batten said that 74-year-old Sen. R.C. Soles of Tabor City shot Kyle Blackburn late Sunday afternoon.

A spokeswoman at Loris Community Hospital in South Carolina said Monday that Blackburn was in fair condition.

Batten says the shooting occurred when two men went to the senator’s house and tried to kick in his front door. No charges have been filed.

The sheriff’s office said the State Bureau of Investigation was handling the case. A call to an agency spokeswoman was not immediately returned. There was no answer at a number listed for Soles’ home.

The Democrat has been in the Senate 32 years.

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said. The victim, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties.. The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening. "I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm right in the middle of an investigation." Soles, a top-ranking Democrat and the longest-serving member of the legislature, already was the subject of an FBI investigation over sexual misconduct allegations with former male clients. The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim. In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do As I Say And Not As I Do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation. It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine. But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can

This goes to show that anti's are not really anti-gun... they are just anti-your-gun. They like their guns just fine... and their armed private security... and their militarized police forces... etc...

I pray that he now has an epiphany and changes his mind on future votes.

I am waiting for the follow-up story on that investigation. Already read this a week or more ago.

Since the Senator was already under investigation for other crimes it makes me wonder what really caused this guy to be shot.

I have long maintained that the fastest way to find a handgun is to turn a rabid anti-gunner upside down and shake.

Those weren't my words. I copied and pasted the remarks from another site. However, we don't know why those people intruded into the senator's premises. If the reason was to shoot this senator, well I guess then Mr. Blackburn would be a victim of sorts, because he acted in good will

There are no anti-gun politicians. None of them want to disarm the police, military, or other government agents. As such, it is more accurate to describe these people as pro-tyranny.

Indicted

This happened in October. He is now Indicted.

A Columbus County grand jury indicted Sen. R.C. Soles for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Last month, a grand jury found probable cause to believe Soles had acted unlawfully when he shot 22-year-old Kyle Blackburn, a client of his law firm.

Soles said former client Kyle Blackburn was trying to break into his home outside Tabor City when the shooting took place five months ago. Today a grand jury decided there was enough evidence to move forward with a trial for North Carolina's longest serving state senator.

The grand jury met at the Columbus County Court House behind close doors. Nine new members were selected to replace those who had fulfilled their service since granting the presentment last month. Just after 2 p.m. the jury returned 59 true bills of indictment, one indicting Soles for assault with a deadly weapon, which is a Class E felony. If he's found guilty Soles could serve up to two and a half years in prison. His next court date is scheduled for February 10.

Soles's attorneys Joe Cheshire and Brad Bannon said in a statement: "We are disappointed with the indictment of Senator Soles and maintain that he was acting in defense of himself and his home on August 23. We will continue to work with the Attorney General’s Office to resolve this unfortunate matter, consistent with the truth. Absent any new developments, we will have no further public comment about it."

No word yet on when soles will be arrested or turn himself in.

The whole thing sounds shady. If it's true that "Soles said ... Kyle Blackburn was trying to break into his home" then he may not have actually been acting in self defense. TRYING to break in is different that, broke in, and calls into question whether his life was in danger to the point of using deadly force.

Besides being a hypocrite, the guy sounds like someone who may not even understand the most important aspects of the law of his state -- which makes me wonder why citizens kept re-electing him.

They just want to chose who gets to have them, and you can't.

Fixed it for ya.

No, I meant exactly what I said.

For example, in New York City people can get permits to own and carry guns. But they must be the right sort of people. The wealthy, powerful, politically-connected, and famous can - and do - get them.

Ordinary people are screwed.

So when I said progressives, and that includes members of both political parties, want to chose who can and who can not own have guns I meant exactly that.

Some people can. Hell even you might even be able to. But you've got to express the right beliefs, subscribe to the right causes, give to the right charities and political campaigns, or have the ability to give them something they want. Meet those criteria and you may have one, too.

There's quite a debate about the Senator getting a good NRA rating and local gun groups not being positive about him - if you google him and ratings.

What the real deal is - I dunno?
