Any advice on highlighting the front sight of a Chief's Special?

I use automotive touch-up paint in a suitable color available at any Walmart...
That's what I use too. I found a bottle of a really bright red. The bottle even has a little paintbrush in the cap.

Has anyone tried enlarging the rear sight?
I've used a dremel ot a small file to open up the gap in the rear sight, making it wider and/or deeper. You have to be careful though. You can easily open one side more than the other, shifting your POI to one side. Unless it's an adjustable sight, you need a caliper to carefully measure how much you take off, and make it even.

(unless, of course, it is your intention to move your POI more to one side)

Mr O'Shea:

Very good advice on the rear sight question. You have convinced me not touch it. If I do anything, it will be to take it to a gunsmith. The sight picture is already greatly improved by touching up the front sight.

It's Rick, Bob - you're among friends here :) .

Didn't mean to frighten you or discourage you from trying to do this yourself. It's not at all difficult, just needs to be done carefully and properly.

If you don't wan't to pay a gunsmith (although supporting your local gunsmith is a worthy cause...), then ask around amongst your shooting buddies or at the local range.
With a little sense of who seems to know their stuff, or is well spoken of, you might find someone who might reliably do this for pizza money and give you a chance to watch and learn.

If you think this sort of thing might be interesting, then I highly recommend Patrick Sweeney's book: http://www.amazon.com/Gunsmithing-Pistols-Revolvers-Patrick-Sweeney/dp/0873497635/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201141522&sr=1-3 .
It's geared toward the hobbyist gunsmith and he's a very relaxed and entertaining guy to read.

Before long, you'll be turning perfectly servicable weapons into "projects", and have a dealer account at Brownell's...

Then again, if you like the sight picture the way it is, then leave well enough alone and ignore all of the above ;) .

Cheers,
Rick

I have used the wifes bright red nail polish with good results. Just a dab will do. I am able to pick up the front sight fast with it. Best thing is that it can be taken off easily.
