Any AK come with a longer stock?

I'm going to buy an AK. I can't remember the last time I shouldered one. From what I can remember and what I see in pictures and what I hear, the regular stock on an AK is pretty short. Do any come with a longer than normal stock? I asked this on another gun forum and the only suggestions I received were: 1. Arsenal;and 2. Yugo clone. (I'm 6'-2", 275, 34-35" sleeve, medium size hands--if that helps.)

Most AKs come with a short stock. K-Var sells extended-length butt stocks, the same ones used on the Arsenal, Inc. AKs. Other options included recoil pads that extend the original stocks, and Ace replacement stocks.

I like the stock on my Arsenal Inc. The others are way too short IMO.

Probably all of the above, plus they may have been thinking that shorter is better based on their WW2 experience.

Also, it's probably easier to use a short-stocked carbine in nice weather than it is to use a long-stocked carbine wearing Siberia-worthy cold weather gear. The Russians had a lot of cold-weather fighting in WW2 as well, and may have been influenced by that aspect also.

Having said that, the short stocks fit us short-armed people pretty well. (I'm 5'6".)

I just put a TAPCO collapsible/adjustable stock on mine. I generally use it on the 2nd notch, which is about the same length as the short wooden stock that came on it. I guess I just like short stocks except on scoped magnum rifles (and not in that case because I don't like circular scars around my eyes!)

There are two standard butt stocks for AK. The warsaw pact length (short) and NATO length (long). Arsenal is a good way to go since must of their rifles are equiped with the NATO stock. good luck

Another recomendation for the Tapco T6 adjustable stock (unless you wer thinking longer wood on, then I don't know)I have one n my WASR-10 and its great.

You can buy a 1" thick rubber stock extension/recoil pad designed for an AK (they make SKS versions also). It attaches with the original stock screws and has a hole for access to the cleaning kit. It's not fancy, but for $8-10, they make the short AK stock fit reasonably well.

As luck would have it, I was looking though the latest Shotgun News last night and the DSA ad on page 42 caught my eye. DSA is now selling what appears to be the exact same AK furniture set that came on my Arsenal SA M-7. They are U.S.-made, four piece sets (upper and lower handguard, pistol grip and buttstock) in black or green, and for stamped or milled receivers, and you have your choice of Warsaw Pact length or the 1.25" longer NATO length buttstock (which is what came on my Arsenal). Price is $89.95 to $94.95 depending on color, receiver, type, etc.

What 1911user said is probably the easiest way to go. I used a similar recoil pad on my 10/22 to cure the short stock and smooth plastic buttplate.
Only problem is that now I have people making fun of me for having a .22 with a recoil pad.
