Decide what you want and start searching. I decided I wanted a Colt 6721. A month ago they could be found for just over $1100. Looking at Gunbroker completed auctions, people have paid under $1200 and over $1400 in the recent past for the exact same NIB rifle. No doubt some sellers will continue to inch higher to find the upper limit. It wasn't that hard for me to find one just over $1200...and I even found a dealer who doesn't charge 3% for credit cards and only charges actual UPS cost ($14 in my case). I was willing to pay $100 over what I think they will likely settle back down to just to have it in hand. I would not have gone to the $1300 and $1400 levels that some already are. I will wager $100 with anyone interested that within 2 weeks, someone will list and sell the exact same model..Colt AR6721...for $1500+.
So, my bottom line. If you can find it for a reasonable price now, buy it. But don't get caught up in the temporary spike, you'll hate yourself in a few months. I do think it will be a while before an AWB makes it to the top of our new leader's agenda......but I also think we are just one school shooting spree away from it happening very very quickly. Plus, if all they do is put the old AWB back in....well, there's a whole lot more pre-ban stuff out there this time around.
