I just recently sold a few older AR's that had been collecting dust for awhile. A friend of mine owns the LGS I shop/shoot at. He had some Ruger AR-556 AR-15's come into the store about 2 weeks ago. He put one on the rental side and I shot a few mags through it. SWEET! I bought 2 from him for $499 plus tax. I will shoot 1 and store the other 1 in my safe.
Any other AR-556 owners here? Opinions?

Couple recent threads on the Ruger.

I bought mine a year ago, love it, out of the box, ready to use, no issues so far, added a bipod and a bushnell AR scope to mine for the range. Lots of fine and sits ready to use for home defense with a 30 rd mag if needed.

I paid $600 for mine, so you got a deal.

I also bought mine about a year ago and have, for the most part, enjoyed learning about the AR.

Pro's - Great price, decent stock trigger (pull was heavy but it broke nice and clean!), thin hand guard, relatively accurate with the stock sight, very sturdy, 1:8 barrel twist allows for a very wide range of bullet weights.

Con's - nothing specific I can think of

Pro & Con - the proprietary delta ring! It screws off and, if you turn it the right direction, it works beautifully. Turn it the wrong direction, as I am wont to do, and you'll need a pair of pliers/vise grips to correct it being over tightened. Also, mine came with a loose barrel nut, allowing the barrel to "wobble" ever so slightly. Between correcting that and installing new trigger springs, I became quite adept at breaking everything down.

I've had mine for about a year and a half now. No regrets or complaints. It does what it is supposed to (go bang with every trigger pull). I added a Nikon P-223 scope with Nikon mounts after the first year. I can now shoot my reloads in under .5" 5-shot groups @ 50 yards

Worth the money, especially your deal. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
