okay, okay. I'm just lazy enough that I really hate having to lube up my rifle cases, and then wipe them off. Carbide pistol dies have spoiled me!

Is there such a thing as carbide rifle dies? I've done some casual looking, and haven't run across any yet, but I know there are some extremely fancy competition dies out there that might be carbide.

I'm loading for .223 in an AR, so I think I still need to do full length resizing.

The Lee Deluxe Die Sets are NOT CARBIDE Full Length Resizers! The no lube is in reference to using the Collet Die. All full length resizer dies require lube! Even Carbide Rifle Dies from Dillon need lube!Dillon Carbide Rifle Dies You still need to lube the inside of the case neck.

Rifle dies are not available with carbide. Carbide works only in straight wall cases such as most pistol calibers and .30 Carbine. The carbide portion is actually just a ring at the base of the die. I do not think it would be economical to manufacture a die with the whole interior made of carbide. There may also be problems with the bittleness of carbide and making a whole die from it.

yes, dillon makes both .223 and .308 FL carbide dies.

sorry,but they still need lube.

Kamicosmos,

My process is to lube, deprime, trim then polish in a tumbler. I load .223 in my Dillon AT500/550. I have an RCBS uniflow inplace of the dillon measure.
I also use the hornady lube. I think it uses wax instead of oil to lube the cases. The can says it will not contaminate the powder or primers.

i have a set of dillon 223 dies, and you still need to lube the cases. the only advatage of carbide in rifle calibers is smoother operation and much longer service life...

Thanks for educating me, also.

I didn't think there were any true 'carbide' rifle dies out there but when I saw the Lee dies that claimed they didn't need lubing I scratched my head...dismissed it and never gave it much more thought.

See? Even old decrepid dogs like me like to learn new things, lol.

RCBS made a LUBING DIE , a die that had lub in it . I believe it was for a progressive press . Check their website .

Hollywood Engineering makes CARBIDE rifle dies

Just for the record so people don't get confused that they don't exist. They exist, as do the .308 and 5.56/.223 dies from Dillon and likely others. BUT carbide bottleneck rifle dies are special purpose and don't offer the same convenience as straight case low pressure cartridges. See Elmer Keith or the .50MG crowd for nothing but praise for Hollywood.

Redding and Wilson Bushing neck sizing dies dies are also available with a Titanium Nitride bushing - for neck sizing only. Redding sets mostly include a full length to bump the shoulder back as well - not carbide. Wilson will do the same.

Try Hornady Oneshot. It's a spray-on lube. It doesn't get too messy which is why I like it.

My case prep steps are tumble, lube, resize, trim, chamfer/debur neck, clean primer pocket, uniform primer pocket, re-tumble, then debur flashhole (deburring flashhole after 2nd tumble gets any stuck media out of flashhole).
