So two questions for you all if any of you use decoys dogs maybe you can tell me are they worth anything if you just fur hunt in the winter most of the stuff I have seen says no but I have found a few that say yes and it makes me wonder also since I am in k.y and most of the land we hunt has a lot of cover would they be any good because every time I see it being done it out west in the open country
And lastly wanted to see what you all would think about this idea I had I was talking to a guy I met that was from the UK and he told me over there they hunt for deer with what they call stocking dogs which are most gun dogs that are used to find deer in heavy cover they do it by working a area that deer are known to be in but stay in sight of the hunter and led him to were they are at and when they find it they don't brack but just set and pont to were it is now I am wondering could you work a coyote in heavy cover like that from what little bit I know coyote bed up in the day time would you think it could be done or would a coyote be gone before the dog got anywhere near it

There are people out here that run coyotes with hounds, but my buddy uses a small dog to attract coyotes when he calls. One time a coyote grabbed his dog and chewed him up pretty good. I don't know if you could use one for getting them up and running in the brush, sounds interesting, keep us posted.

Coyotes have adapted to live almost anywhere, city, country, doesn't seem to make them any difference. I suppose you could startle a coyote during the day but i would bet that is the exception. Calling works the best for me, still not all that easy esp if they see you once.

I was thinking about the decoy dog not so much for going out and leading them back because that only good when they are dening up and the fur.is no good but I was thinking of the other uses I have heard of the number one use being picking up on when when is coming and letting you know which way also given the coyote something to focus on besides you and lastly to recover one after the shot and the stocking dog was just a idea I got from a guy that only saw it used for deer and I was just wondering if maybe it could work for stuff like coyote and fox

Yotes are mostly targets of opportunity with me, with no shortage in the areas I frequent. But from time to time I'll call them. Rabbit calls work best, but be careful if you have other critters, think bobcat, lynx or puma, in the same area. More than one caller has been surprised to fine one of these sneaking up from behind.

Check out this guy. He is big time into decoy dogs.

My BIL has gotten to be pretty good friends and has hunted several times with him. I went once about 3 years ago. Had a good time, but it isn't worth the expense for a coyote for me to do it on a regular basis. But my BIL loves it.

I shot the last coyote his favorite dog "Gunner" worked. A couple of days after my hunt Tony found the dog dead. If you watch some of his video you'll see Gunner working.

I know about him he one of the main ones claim that decoy dog do work outside of the dening season just never found anything of him doing it in the winter like when we hunt
