Any Daewoo rifle owners here?

I recently acquired a Daewoo AR 100 rifle. This is the 5.56 sidefolder also sold as the "K2" and the "Max 2", depending on who imported it. This is the version with the AK style gas piston mated to an AR style lower.

I'm looking for more info on the rifle and a source for parts. I already signed up at the DR200 owners group on Yahoo. I also found a couple possible sources for small parts, but so far nothing's panned out. (If I do find a source, I'll post it here, after I get some spares for me)

Any tricks or tips from experienced Daewoo owners? Anything I should, or shouldn't do? Any parts that are especially prone to breakage?

Any ammo reccomendations? Other people have said the twist is 1/7, so I'm thinking 62 gr ammo would be a good start. Any idea how these rifles handle the heavier loads or how the 55 gr stuff would shoot?

I lucked into this gun at local store for $800. I've wanted one for a long time, but never thought I'd get one, due to the scarcity and the price. Now if I can just get some spare parts, I'll feel better about making it my primary 5.56 gun.

I have a DR200 with an Ace Ltd. folding stock and love it.There's an online manual at geocities.com (don't have the link).Good luck with the Yahoo group.I signed up awhile back, but no response.Spare parts are not often needed with these, they are pretty sturdy.BTW,the muzzle thread pattern is 1/2-28 like an AR so you can put a flashhider on.AR fire control parts interchange, but not bolt parts.Enjoy!

My dealer had one in a few months ago, I played with it but I didn't know what it was. How much? $599:banghead: :banghead:

I had a K2 for several years. The Yahoo group was the only place I found for parts (never needed any, though). From time to time they would order a run of custom-made parts from a machinist.

Your best bet might be to buy a cheap(er) thumbhole DR200 as a source of parts.

I never tried any ammo heavier than 62 grain, but the 55 shot just fine.

Great rifles

I recommend regulary cleaning the gas plug (it's easier this way), even though the rifle will go thousands and thousands and thousands of rounds without bobbling.

AR trigger parts do work, except that the hammer isn't quite right. I believe with a little machining the hammer can be made to work.

For some reason I am thinking they have a 1 in 12 twist (which means the 62s aren't going too work to well). Mine loves the M193.

Great rifles (What the Galil should have been and the M16 isn't).

atblis - The preban K2s have a fast twist (1:7 or so), and the postban DR200s have a slower twist (1:12, IIRC).

Yup...

1/185mm (1/7.3 in) for the K2 and 1/305mm (1/12 in) for the DR200...

If you can find either at a decent price, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Both are fine rifles...

Thanks for the tips. I'm still tracking down a couple possible sources for parts. I made a few calls last week and I'm giving them until next week to call me back before I call again. Most likely will be a dry well again though.

I can't post pics right now. My computer is sick and I borrowed a computer from a friend while he fixes mine. I don't want to install anything new on his machine and he doesn't have any digicamera software loaded on this box.

Btw, Wayne, send an e-mail to the owner of the Yahoo group at the e-mail listed on the group profile. I did when he didn't approve me and he put me on the list and sent me an e-mail apology a couple days later. He's been busy, he said. You'll want to put in a new "Join Group" request first so he has something to act on.
