Any Deals at Gander mountain ?

Here in Wisconsin they are average-high, but still better than the outrageously priced Cabelas in our area. I notice better prices at Bass Pro, but they don't have a whole lot of reloading supplies.
Gander has ridiculous ammo prices as mentioned earlier.

During a recent trip (Thanksgiving weekend) to Little Rock, AFB in Arkansas I passed by a Gander Mountain Store on the highway. The next morning I backtracked and found the store again. Got some great deals on camping/travel gear. Also found a Cyclops Xenon XCF Tactical flashlight. Good price too... $49.00. Black airplane aluminum, 80 lumens xenon bulb, pocket clip & belt sheath, red, blue, green & clear lenses, and 4 (2 extra) CR123 Lithium Batteries.

It's a great little light! The www.cyclopssolutions.com website has it listed for $89.00.

Most of the camping equipment and travel gear was 30-50% off. And I got an additional $20.00 off each $100.00 I spent. Me & the Mrs. spent about $400.00, we both got some good bargains. And we got another $80.00 off our purchases. We were both pretty happy.

However, the gun prices & ammo prices were about average. Didn't pick up any firearms related things.

Wish there was a Gander Mtn closer to home. With Cabelas & Bass Pro Shops it would be a good addition to Western Missouri.

They hire some really brilliant people their.
or there...:D

Local store in York, PA typically has a moderately good selection of overpriced used guns. There was local FFL working in the gun department for a while. While he was there, the selection improved in all ways- quality, quantity, and price. I picked up a MINT Colt Series 70 (original) for $529:D

Apparently the store got a new manager, and several of the gun folks got the boot. Gun department employees now run from pretty good to friggin' clueless. Selection is now skimpy, with crappy guns, and insane prices. Guess they don't care about selling used guns.

I picked up a Beretta Neos for $199 a few months back at the Orlando store and they have the S&W 22A for $199. That seemed like a pretty good price but I'm not in the market so had not priced anywhere else. Their prices sure seem to clobber our Bass Pro Shop.

On the used front, they had a fair Mark II for $179. I offered up a little less and they did not even acknowledge my offer so I assume they don't entertain offers. Best price I say used was a P38 in nice shape (probably refurbished) for $279. That seemed pretty reasonable.

Went to my first Gander Mt in years on Friday. New store. Spent a lot of time cruising through the place and the selection. Prices appear to be about like Bass Pro which tend to be on the upper end of firearm pricing. Liked looking at the other stuff. Was not impressed at all with their ammo selection. It was downright poor. The sales people were helpful. Bought a new pair of rubber Lacrosse boots for hunting and wet weather field use.

I'll go back. But I won't go to any special trouble to visit a store.

I went to one of their stores in central Ohio for ammo a few weeks back, just needed some .45ACP plinkers. They had a 250 count box of the Rem. UMC ammo for 89.99, most places are around 50 for the same box! Their 20ga bird shells were just as overpriced. I didn't buy any ammo, but did grab some neoprene socks on sale.
When I got to the front, there was a line of about 15 people waiting on ONE cashier, the week before Christmas during the evening! After a 20 minute wait, I'm asked by the cashier for my phone number for their records! I told him I don't give out my number, I have no interest in making things easier for telemarketers. He tells me they have to input a number, so I tell just to type in 555-1234, which will get you local directory assistance. He tells me it has to be a real number. At this point I put my wallet back in my pocket and walk for the door, followed by 3 other would-have-been customers.

Needless to say, they've lost my business for good.

I went in yesterday for some .40 S&W snap caps, trying to see what's the problem with my friend's .40 witness that suddenly is having feeding issues. Well, they didn't have them, and the ones they did were insanely priced. Turned out I didn't need them anyway, as soon as I pulled the mag, I saw the lip was bent. "Oh yeah, I dropped it last week when I was cleaning it." I think I was able to fix it, but he ordered two new mags online, just in case.

The only decent priced handgun I saw there was the Stoeger Cougar in 9mm, $350, list price. They wouldn't come down at all. One thing that's nice about them is they do let you actually work the slide and cock it, etc, unlike most gun stores. One place had an owner that practically passed out when I worked the slide on a USED Beretta 84 I was looking at. I wonder what he would have done if I did that on the new custom 1911 he had in that pretty wood box.

Our gander mountain (Peoria) is way high on Powder and Primers, somewhat high on ammo, and about what I'd expect from a chain store on guns. Where they DO have great prices is on Scopes. I picked up a Leopold VX-III for $20 less than I could get it anywhere on the internet and they gave me 10% off for signing up for their credit card, and 5% credit in vouchers on the purchase for using the credit card. After all was said and done for taxes I got a scope that was $529 + $10 s/h (cheapest I could find on the internet) for $435 and was able to take it home that day.

Just my .02

Dave

Disappointed with GM

Here's my experience with Gander Mountain.
Called the store on two occasions. First time, couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. Second time got put on hold, sat like a bump on a log for 10 minutes, then hung up.
So yesterday I decide to go there (GM in Huber Heights OH) to see for myself. Big, huge, store. Very busy with lots of customers.
They had plenty of firearms. Unfortunately, they were very overpriced. On everything: rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammo, accessories, etc. They only had 6 mil-surp rifles. All were in craptastic condition. All overpriced. I guess if you want to buy a shotgun, its a good place to go. They had racks upon racks of those.
They seemed to be sufficiently stocked on ammo of most sorts, not all naturally. Of course, some of their ammo didn't have a price tag, so forget comparing prices.
Here's the thing that ticked me off the most. They didn't carry any AKs or AK accessories. None. Zip. If you like AKs or looking to add on to your AK collection, forget it. In addition to the aforementioned crappy-condition mil-surp rifles, they had about 5 ARs. But nothing AK-related. Mind you, the gun dept in this place by itself is pretty big, but they can't carry any overpriced AK stuff? Ridiculous.
If you like paying extravagant prices for camping or hunting or shooting merchandise you could order online at half the price, then you should love Gander Mountain. The next time I see someone in public wearing a Gander Mountain T-shirt or other GM apparel, I will secretly snicker to myself, because they assuredly paid dearly for the right to be a walking billboard for this company.
In summary, I don't plan to waste the gas to drive there again. My .02

GM is like any other store. Some stuff is in stock, some is not. Some prices are good, some are not.

Kinda funny that guys will post here about how they get ripped off because a dealer won't give them enough for a trade in, then post because the used stuff is too high

:scrutiny:

I went to public school, but IIRC it's called "free market economy"

I Love Gander Mountain!

I love Gander Mountain! :p I've shopped at the Reynoldsburg store since it opened. Here's the trick: become buddies with one of the guys behind the counter. Only deal with that person. Make a point of chatting with him every time you drop in.

When I bought my Colt Defender there 3 years ago, they priced matched a lower price from a store I'd called, that didn't have it in stock. My buddy there knew this Spring that I was looking for a used Ruger .22 to use in my concealed carry classes. He made me a great deal on one that had just come in, looked brand new with 4 mags. He'll call me if they are having a big ammo sale.

He will always price match on ammo for me. Buckeye Outdoors carries CCI Blazers., .45's for $8.99. I always get that price a GM.

GM bent over backwards for me when I was having issues with my Colt. They worked with me and Colt Mfg. until Colt got it right. The gunsmith was great.

I'm taking a friend there tomorrow to buy a new Kimber. I know that she'll get a better price from my buddy than she'd get anywhere else.

It's all in who you know and taking the time to build that relationship.:D

Gandermountain near me (southern Michigan) is, IMO, quite pricy.. $710 for a new 700 CDL... i was looking for a 10/22 and they have the best selection within 80 miles of me... 259 + tax for the the 10/22 deluxe sport model (walnut stock, blued, etc)... heck they want nearly 700 dollars for a well used Mini-14 that looks like it's been dragged through the mountians behind a horse... it does have a flash suppressor though... new ones right next to it are mid 600's... go figure...

what really irks me about the local GM is that it takes you over an HOUR from the time you say i'll take it til they escort you through the door... Even with a freshly issued CPL... they STILL make you go through the NICS background check... They also triple check the 4473 and you stand around and wait 20 minutes or so for the 3rd person to check it then the manager to sign off... guess it gives you plenty of time to browse the rest of the store while they play pattycake...

Kinda funny that guys will post here about how they get ripped off because a dealer won't give them enough for a trade in, then post because the used stuff is too high

I had a Savage 110 in 30-06 that had only 5 shots through it,w/ a Tasco scope w/Weaver mounts(to gain extra clearance for the bolt). The BEST price GM would give me was $75.00. The had a couple of used ones on the rack priced over $275.00 all in much worse shape than mine.
I heard a coworker was in the market for a 06 and sold it to him for $225.
I understand Free market but I know a scam when I see one!!

I came home from GM about an hour ago and I still feel the need to medicate myself. I have never found a knowledgeable gun person in the mid MI store and the wait time to even get someone to talk to you is unbearable. Twice I walked out after my patience abandoned me (10 minutes is too long to wait for someone that is entertaining another customer). (And I do mean ENTERTAINING.)

They have a crappy black powder section and I'm beginning to think that there is a shortage of #11 percussion caps in this area.

Ammo prices are unbelievable. Used gun prices are hilarious. No sir, no GM for me if I can find my supplies someplace else.

display models

The times I've tried to buy a shotgun at Gander they said the only model they had was the one on display. Who wants to pay top dollar for a gun thats been on the rack for months handled by hundreds of people, cycling the bolt on an empty chamber, banged around, etc.

I got my Gander Mt T-Shirt for 6.99, I don't consider that a "dear" price. :p

Got my CZ75BD NIB there for 349.99.

Picked up a Marlin 917m2 for 109.00 not too long ago.

Got a Browing Buck Mark Challenge for $50 off, just because I asked.

Some of their gun prices are the highest around, like the P345 which is a full $70 more expensive that Ive been quoted at several other places in town but in general they have the best prices and best service that I have been given around here.

Let see good deal to be had at GanderMountain on my part in order of most recent.

1.) LNIB Kahr E9 for $299.
2.) Used CZ 40B for $229.
3.) NIB CZ 40B for $299. with 50 dollar clearance so $249.
4.) Savage Model 12bvss .223 topped with a Nikon Monarch for $649 barely used.

Things that won't ever move off of the Green Bay Shelves...things i look and and think WTH...

1.) Well used Sako TRG-42 in .300WM for $3500!!!
2.) Pre-ban Mini 14 .223 with folding stock. $999.!!!

Bottom line is better now your prices when walking into a gander mountain.

Are slogan for them is Gander Mountain you can't buy better but you pay more!!!

One has to shop carefully, and opportunistically at Gander Mountain. Like anywhere, one has to be at the right place at the right itme for the best deals.

Lately, the store has nothing but used police trade-ins bought by Corporate to dump on the used market. I travel a good bit, and visit stores all over the East Coast and Midwest. Each Gander Mountain is very consistent with the stock on hand and the pricing.

They have to be about $50-75 per gun higher than most local gun stores. Their overhead and legal liabilities and diverse product offerings require this markup. I do not fault them for that. They do not cater to the collectors. They cater to the one-time buyer who wants something right now, without much research.

I have purchased some amazing deals in the past years. The used market is a very picky market. The appraisers price the guns widely. I have seen guys price the used guns so high that they are almost new prices. I have seen some so under-priced, that I could barely hold myself from jumping up and down screaming out of joy for getting such a deal.

One gets the deal when one can. For example, I bought a G34 one time with 2 hi-cap mags in 95% easy for $335. I found a Smith & Wesson Performance Center 629 3-in Lew Horton unfired for $600. At one time, gander Mountain had the cheapest SW9VE and SW40VE around, at $269 new with hi-caps. I took home some finds which were not deals, but they were available when I wanted them. A blued Colt Gold Cup came home with me for $750. The best thing about the hidden costs of Gander Mountain are the 90-day layaway plan. I have staggered my purchases through the year with this very liberal policy of payments. They also transfer guns from store to store for free. I saw a great deal in one state, and had to ship it to my home state for the transaction. All it took was a phone call, and filling out a little request slip. They absorbed teh shipping costs. The gun made it to teh store before my flight got me home.

All their hicap mags for Glocks are about $10 higher: $30 vs. $20 typical in the gun store. All the Uncle Mike's stuff is about $2-8 higher than internet prices.

As for new guns, that can be found, too. At times, Glock were on sales for less than gun stores. I once bought 2 Glocks for $475 each when they had a clearance on certain models. The corporate office buys in bulk. I found a Colt 1991 new roll mark for $589 when the price hikes jumped to $789 average in teh gun stores. Gander has left-over pre-bought stock which one can get the deals before corporate standardize the price hikes.

Moral of the story: Shop arouund.

Walked into GM three months ago, saw a used P226 that looked good, was approached by "John" behind the counter saying "Can I help you", "Yeah, let's check out that P226", John (elitist like) "What do you want to know about it?"

I looked at him, shook my head and walked out. I know what I want, I want the dude to pull it out from the glass, check it and set it on the padded mat on the glass top so I can inspect the piece!

Went in a month later, saw "John" again and got considerably better service, ended up buying a surplus P225. He spent the time to let me inspect 9 of them so that I was comfortable getting the best of the lot. I asked if they would clean it, he said no, but did include the $19.99 warranty package for free which includes a free cleaning by a smith. So the answer was, in effect yes.

I like the fact that in looking at used pistols, the gunsmith is right there about 10 feet from the counter and when he get's a minute, he'll inspect the gun, run a patch through it, shoot it and give an opinion on reliability, overall condition and perceived accuracy right there on the spot!

I do not get the impression that the smith I'm used to talking to about purchases at Gander is a shill for the store, he seems honest and forthright.

3 great deals in the last 5 or 6 years and about that many good deals.....

great deals ....

Winchester solid rib model 12 heavy duck with pigeon grade wood...$350..kept
Walther PP Sport with single action trigger....$350...sold for $700

YES!!!! since jan 1. everygun that is ending in .97 cents is clearanced, that means it is allready cheaper than normal. but they should also take an additional 50. dollars off of all rifles/guns that are over 249.99. I got a stainless laminate marlin for 219. plus tax. Awesome!!! Plus several others.
This deal is going on in all the houston/texas area stores.

Still Lovin' Gander Mountain!

One thing to remember about Gander Mountain is...,they will always price match or even go slightly lower. So if you know somewhere else has something cheaper, just mention it and they will take care of you!

I got a GREAT deal on ammo today, so I bought 2 cases...,that would be 2000 rounds of .45's! Fun's a coming!
