It's funny how sizes of handguns are labeled as denoted by cartridge than can be a determining factor. Most label 4" compact, but s&w only labels the 9 4" as compact, but not the 10mm. So, technically I have only 1 compact as I don't care for comps, bubs and micros. Now the question................does anyone have a m&p full size 45acp that could give feedback on/about? I'm awaiting on a 5.31" threaded barrel version to arrive when Bud's get their shipping in gear. I was hoping for arrival this week, but looks like next week if not shipped tomorrow?

We used to carry the M&Ps in .357 Sig when we switched from revolvers (also S&W) to autoloaders in transportation at the prison. I really can't give you much feedback, that was an odd and expensive caliber so we didn't shoot much. But I had no complaints.

An M&P9 2.0 was my second pistol. Still have it and it differed through the development of my “Quiet” 9mm loads. They don’t work but the pistol did. It’s not a target pistol but it shoots consistently out to 25 yards. I’m not sure if it’s the pistol or me but it has only had one misfire in many many rounds. It was one of my reloads so I can’t confidently blame the gun.

My next purchase is a 40 and barrel change to 357sig.
I have 2 10mil and 1 9mil in the m&p line and can't say anything bad about any of them. Just was wondering if any have a full size 45 m&p?

I purchased the full size gun with the 4.6 inch barrel in 45acp. This doesn't have the threaded barrel. It came with two 10 round magazines. This is my first gun in 45acp so I wanted full size. I haven't been disappointed with it. I like having the interchangeable back straps to get the correct fit to my hand. The grip texture allows me to get a good grip on the gun. I can't remember having any malfunctions with the gun..I'm not sure what your expectations are but I hope you're pleased with it once you get it.

My experience with the m&p line have been very pleased! Couldn't ask for a better firearm in a poly! The only other poly firearms I have a glocks, fn and springfield. My 1st experience with 45acp was horrible as it was a 1911 with a plethora of issues. I'd been shooting a 629 in 44mag for years and the extremely slow 45 was 1 difficult to grasp. I thought the round was horrible until I bought a g21. I was very accurate with cheap wwb ammo @ 15 yards. Just over 1" at that distance under high winds shooting w/o a rest. Changed my view about that cartridge and realized it was the gun itself. I'm sure I'll be very pleased as just wanting replies about other people's experience with them.

Here's the 9mil ported core 5" and 4.25" version. The black threaded is an Apex and the ss is a storm lake. The Apex stays locked longer that the 2 factory and the SL barrels. The other 2 are my 10mils w/Timney's.

The nomenclature has changed over time. But I have two 1st gen M&P 45's. One is considered a Compact because it has a shorter grip and uses 8 round mags. Of course 10 or 14 round mags work equally well in it. The other is considered a full size since it has a longer grip and only takes 10 or 14 round mags. But both have the same 4" barrel.

I also have a 2.0 Compact in 10mm. I wanted the shorter 4" barrel vs the 4.5" barrel of the full size. Both take the same 15 round mags.

Overall I like them. I have replaced all 3 triggers with APEX triggers. It made a HUGE difference in the 1st generation 45's. The factory triggers were horrible. It improved the trigger on the 10mm, but the factory triggers on those guns are already acceptable IMO.

I still like Glock a little better. However there are certain situations where I prefer a manual safety. I sold my G29 in 10mm specifically to get the Smith 10mm with a manual safety. That is my hiking/camping pistol in bear country. I could never get comfortable with the G29 in my sleeping bag at night with a loaded chamber and no safety. I kept the chamber empty unless I was awake and carrying the gun in a holster. I will keep a round chambered in the Smith with the safety on even in my sleeping bag while sleeping.

The two 45's I picked up a few years ago used at stupid cheap prices. It's not that I need them, but the price was too good to pass up and after replacing the factory trigger they rival a 1911 for accuracy

I have a couple of 45s and 40S&W M&Ps, one has a laser, all mine were LEO trade-ins purchased at an auction for about $100 or more cheaper than Glocks ($175-225), I run the 14rnd mags and the only problems I've ever had was when I loaded some wad cutters (had more problems in my 1911s), mine prefers RN or SWC-RN. Most of my pistol shooting is done at 7, 10, and 25yrds, I can hold MOPP (minute of paper plate), IF I don't try stupid stuff (10 yrd run, hands in ice water bucket for 30 seconds, hold gun sideways or upside down, etc. between mags). Both of mine are the 1.0 versions, I've not changed the triggers but I might look into them, I've found doing some polishing and the use of dry graphite helps them. I also like that their holsters and sites are compatible with my 40 SDVEs that I keep at my desk and bedside. They fit my wrist better than a Glock. I bought some of the 10rnd mags and drilled out the "dimple" that restricted them and have not had any issues with them if you have problems finding the 14rnd ones.
Things I don't like are their accessories are fewer than Glocks and more expensive, There is not as big a following as with Glock so not as many YouTube videos about them if you need to see any.
Enjoy your new toy

I've got a first gen M&P Compact and a Gen 2 M&P full size with the 5 " barrel.
They are both a joy to shoot, but I like the looks of the Gen 1, but the grip on the Gen 2 is almost perfect for my hands.
I lusted after the 5" for a couple years before Bud's had them on sale shortly for a very good price.
The Gen 1 I bought from a member here, and it looks just like new.

I ordered one of the Full-size Dark Earth M&P 45's, w/thumb safeties, after handling one of the test prototypes developed in '06-'07 for the canceled JCP tests. The rep said the one I was holding had been fired about 25K rounds, and they were proud of it. I scheduled myself for an armorer class ('07) and immediately ordered a FS M&P 45 when they became available in '08.

The trigger was a bit stiff at first (8-9lbs), but soon lightened up to approx 5.5lbs. Of course, when I updated the striker assembly to the new heavy duty MIM unit ('10?), the trigger pull rose back up to 7-8lbs.

I still have that original M&P 45, but it's a little too large for me to often wish to carry it in my retirement. A lot of our guys & gals carried issued M&P 45's for a few years (original models). It was a popular option (compared to the M&P 40). The grip inserts and grip angle make for a nice pistol.

In retrospect, if I were going it again, I'd probably have gone with the "Mid-sized" model they were offering back then, meaning the full-size frame with the slightly shorter Compact 4" slide/barrel, or even the Compact. A couple of the other instructors went with the Compact, and it was a nice handling smaller .45.
