I have owned many red dots over the years. My newest I bought a couple of years ago from Midway for well under $100. The Bushnell TRS25 and TRS32. I have used the TRS32 but hate the constant glare in the lens. Both are 1/3 cowitness and felt weird with one of my ARs with A2 front post. The TRS25 is a newer model and read they aren't a well made as the older ones. I have yet a gun to put this optic onto. Don't know if they're parallax free but leaves something to be desired.

I think it is time to invest in a decent optic. I have been looking at the Aimpoint Pro but have not found any good pricing on them during this Black Friday season. I hear PSA has good sales on them but are out of stock. Maybe Cyber Monday or Christmas it'll be back in stock? I thought about the Eotech XPS2-0 for $449.99 but prefer the battery life of the Aimpoint. If Christmas comes and no good deal I guess I'll just pay what it's going for. While looking at the various optics for around $350-450, the Trijicon MRO came up. This optic is new to me and how does it compare to the Aimpoint Pro? Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Lastly what do you guys prefer? Absolute cowitness or 1/3? I'm use to shooing iron sights and scope. Aiming above the front post is new to me. I plan on getting two optics (different brands), both ARs, one with A2 front sight post and second flat top.

Optics planet has the MRO for $459 but $408 with 11% discount.

$420 using code FR4 at brownells a week ago is the lowest I have seen the PRO recently, it's still valid as of this time. I have one and really like it. You might be able to score a deal on a used one on some forums for sale sections.

Thanks, I just saw that too. The code ends tomorrow at midnight. Not really in a hurry to get it but I think I can find it cheaper if I look hard enough

I have a PRO and my uncle has the MRO. I like the Pro better but wouldn't hesitate to throw an MRO on something, especially if I was trying to shave every oz. My uncle liked my pro but decided to go with the MRO and I believe he once told me he just wished he'd bought the PRO. I don't recall why.

I bought budget optics in the past and they served their purpose reasonably well, if you're tight on funds it's really great to have the lower cost options but just knowing they're made cheaply and can fail just kind of gnaws at me. You don't get that with the Aimpoint, or Trijicon for that matter. The Pro is a lil hefty but not so hefty that I'd spend 2x the money on the CompM4 or T2 to have essentially the same optic in a lighter package. The pro is quite literally bombproof and has a great battery life.

You might find a used one on arf.com or maybe here in the exchange for a few bucks less but to me, $450 for that optic hurts a lil, but I believe the quality is there and it's worth it and if need be, resale value holds up pretty decently.....

I'm actually looking for these same deals myself, I want to put another PRO on one of my AR's. I missed a good deal on an EOtech 512 that was $299. I never see those deals anymore and used to see them from time to time. Wasn't fast enough, even though I much prefer the Pro to the EOtech I kinda just wanted it because it was a deal and variety is the spice of life....although I wouldn't hesitate to put an aimpoint pro on every single AR I own and would like to, save for one that has a LPVO.

Wished I would have saw this thread on Black Friday. Academy had a Eotech full size for $350. Midway still has some dual illuminated RMRs for about $400.

The Red Dots that have some magnification and illumination( Bushnell Engage & Vortex Crossfire 2) are nice too.

best

I think I'm going to go with the Eotech XPS2-0. PSA still has them for $450. I can live with the shorter battery life, just get rechargeables. Mainly because of no parallax and bigger view. I'll still pick up the MRO most likey in the near future if I can find it again for around $400.

Eotech website was running 25% off on black Friday. Not sure if they are still running it or not. Might be worth it to check though.

That is a great deal. MySmokingGuns has a show demo for $436, my EXPS-2 was a demo as well but I couldn’t find a mark on it.

That is a good deal. Holosun is another reasonably priced red dot but you can't beat that price on a Romeo5.

I bought a Sig Romeo7 from Midway for $170 just a week ago. Thought it was a pretty decent deal. Its my first RD so we'll see how it goes lol. I went with the Romeo7 for the large 30mm tube diameter and AA battery compatibility.

got my Eotech in tonight. Put it on my MK18 MOD 0 pistol build and was trying to get the battery cover off, who ever put the cap on put it on very tight. still am unable to get it off. Okay, turn it on. It works, battery came installed. First thing I noticed was what the fuzz? It was not the crisp halo I had seen in pictures or over the internet. My cheap Barska reflex with similar reticle looks more crisp. The glass was also fogged up as it was sitting in a box outside my door in 35 degrees for the past four hours. Thought this thing was fog proof? Brightness was about mid level and I could see the inner housing's faint red light from the laser. I thought the red light was secured and no light from laser would show forward? it does at the right angle. turning the power to 6 seems to help. I wiped the glass down and the outter ring looks a little better, still blurry. I tried to take a picture of it but the camera doesn't do it justice. Maybe that's why it looks better on the net?

I have never handle an Eotech before so I don't know what to expect, certainly not what I experienced so far. I'll view it under daylight tomorrow and see how that goes, maybe less fuzz? I'm just caught by surprised. Maybe I should've ask to see one at a LGS before I bought the XPS2-0. It still looks good on the gun though.

Yes, it will look fuzzy, just a collection of dots but that is the sacrifice for what it does so well. Keep the brightness set low but visible, then give it time and you should adjust to it. Remember you’re focusing on the target, not the sight.

took it out on the balcony and tracking a few objects like a bush, door and moving vehicles. fuzz is less noticeable while in motion (tracking) and closer to eye. Yes I do shoot with both eyes open and I know the concept. it's just this is a new optic and reticle for me.

The first such optic I purchased was a Vortex Strikefire that PSA was selling for about $100 when the Gen 2 came out. I like the ability to switch between red and green. Like the PRO it’s not super light but it was budget friendly. It’s on my “truck gun” now.

I have picked up a couple of TRS-25s cheap. I like the light weight and smaller size. They work well so far but I understand it’s a cheap optic and lacks a “shake awake” feature found on the Romeo 5 or certain Holosun optics.

I like the looks and quality of the MRO and got really interested when the green dot version came out. Then I learned that the batter life is much shorter with the green dot and the MRO lacks a shake awake. I’d have to rotate the knob to turn it on and off, much like my cheap Bushnells.

If you aren't taking it to war I'd recommend a Sig Romeo 5. Battery life is equal to Aimpoint and it functions just fine.
