Any guesses on my velocity. (.270 Win)

I'll start by saying that this load works very well in MY rifle and is under max in some manuals but over max in others. Work up carefully and use with caution.

Now that, that's been said does anybody know or have a program to calculate velocity for this load. I'm not looking for pinpoint guesses just round numbers.

.270 Winchester Brass
COAL 3.300
130gr Nosler Accubond
56.5 gr IMR 4831
Remington 9 1/2 primer
Shot out of a Tikka T3 Lite 22" barrel. Thanks for Your help. Guess I just want to know if this thing is going 2700fps or 3200fps...

a 270win Nosler Partition with 56.5 gr of IMR 4831 shows 3080fps ,I also found a acubond 130 gr with 57gr of IMR4831 at 3112fps , so a guess would be about 3000 fps , out of a 22" hinting rifle

Yup QL calculates 3000-3050fps.

Thanks guys that's perfect. I was hoping for around 3000fps. Its accurate, deadly, and easy on the brass. Can't ask for more than that. Plus it matches factory velocity that is proven deadly.

I stopped at 55.6 gr.

You gotta love the 270. Fast, accurate and deadly. I don't know what velocity I got, but around 2950 I suppose, by the book. My rifle is custom re-barreled 26 inch.

James I know all rifles are different but my worst accuracy came in the 54.5-55.5 range and that wasn't even all that bad .823-.974 inch 3 shot groups LOL. The cheapest factory ammo I can buy shoots smaller than 1" (super-x and powershok).

On a side note the closer I get to the rifling the worse my accuracy got. I shoot consistent 1/2 MOA at a COAL of 3.300 I loaded some 3.330 and shot 1.278 grouping. At 3.300 I'm roughly .055 from rifling and at 3.330 its .025. Doesn't make sense to me but oh well gotta do what shoots best.

Well I can't really address your OAL per say, cause I measure distance off the lands. But regarding IMR-4831 and the SC version. I've worked that load with various bullets, and with that particular powder charge, and 3050 fps is about right. Accuracy with the bullet .010" off the lands has been very good at 100 and 200 yds. from various actions. But different bullets, different actions, and different oal's may produce slightly different results.

I've also had excellent results with IMR-4350, RL22, and RL19. It just seems like the .270 loves slow burning powders. My favorite bullet to date had been a Speer 130 gr. Hot Core. At 3150 fps that bullet has killed a lot of deer, elk and antelope, and from distances out to 600 yds.. If I had to pick one powder from those mentioned, it would probably be RL22, but that's a tough one also, as they have all performed so consistently well for me.

Thanks man I have thought about trying different powders as its really hard to find IMR 4831 locally. I found a pound a few months ago and haven't found anymore since. I've heard great things about RL22 and H-4831sc but this loads shoots so well I haven't thought about changing. With all the good things I hear about the Accubond I have no doubt it'll be a death ray to deer if I do my part. Will probably outperform what my shooting skills will allow me to do. I can't wait to give it the real test in the field.

I get an average of 2831 fps out of a 22" m77 using this load:

55gr IMR4831
3.280" oal
130gr sierra btsp

I'd have to guess you're around 2,950 or so.

270 Loves slow burning powder

I've found that the slower burn rate powders are excellent in the .270 Win. such H-4831, IMR 7828, and IMR 4831. I tend to gravitate toward higher density loads as well. The good news is that if you have a well built rifle it is likely to do very well with the .270 Winchester chambering.

Might want to consider purchasing yourself a chronograph. Might seem like a luxury but it totally removes all the guesswork if you reload. I bought a CHRONY years ago, nothing fancy for about $75 bucks. Have also seen grown men cry after I willingly shot a few of their rounds through the CHRONY to find out for sure.
